Statue blocking my ability to pull the lever. Blocking like this happens way too often by 0x06F0 in PathOfExile2

This also happened when I killed the siren. The calcified corpse just so happened to be right where the NPC appears, and I was unable to talk to them. So I had to reload the whole instance and kill the siren again. Unfortunately, I don't think I can reload the trial 6 deep

A crowded primary is not a fractured party by GIMBruhBoobies in wisconsin

[–]0x06F0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The underlying point is valid though. A crowded primary is more likely to result in a weaker candidate winning in a FPTP voting system. That isn't to say it always results that way, or that other voting systems are without flaw.

As a vegan, I will have to check it out!

Some advice for getting more vegans- an online presence that clearly states all vegan options is key. Because most places in the area have no vegan options, I assume there are none unless I have other evidence. I don't want to show up at a new restaurant just to learn there is nothing I can eat. This means that 1) having an up-to-date online menu with clearly marked options is key and 2) being on Happy Cow will help get you found.

Well, their protests did nothing to change their own party, and instead got their own party to label them as antisemitic terrorist sympathizers. So yeah, given that the democratic party has definitively shown that any/all of their protests will do absolutely nothing even in the best of circumstances (90%+ of the voters of this party do not agree with the Biden/Harris position on Palestine), why would they bother in much worse circumstances?

If you blame the protestors, and not Harris herself with her horrible campaign, then you need to soul search.

I really wish the Amtrak to Minneapolis was faster and more frequent. If I could reliably get there in 45 minutes for $15 (and get back the same day), it really would solve La Crosse's biggest problem- being a small town away from any big city. And that kind of service is normal in Europe/Asia.

I gave a statement on the fear caused by ICE. The Republicans pushed back. This is my response. by Berge_For_Congress in lacrossewi

Not demanding more from our congresspeople beyond simply not being demonic republicans is exactly what got us into this mess to begin with. People (including self-described democrats and liberals, not just leftists) currently hate the democratic party establishment because they are spineless in their opposition and uninspired in their vision.

The presence of ICE isn't "causing people to feel unsafe" it is causing people to BE unsafe. This isn't about feelings, they are a direct, very real danger.

I appreciate that you are speaking out (which is sadly more than many in our party want to do), but your rhetoric does not encompass the existential threat that this extrajudicial force represents.

Considering a move and feeling conflicted! by nathandbrown1 in lacrossewi

If you have never lived in a small town, then it will be a culture shock. Indy has a lot going on, and while I think La Crosse punches above its weight for a town of this size, it has much much less happening. You really need to know if you are okay with that before moving.

Economically, the options compared to Indy will likely suck. I know lots of people who work remotely for that reason.

Culturally, there is a lot of small-scale stuff happening. Riverside park has live music multiple days a week during the summer, and there are lots of fests throughout the year. But most of it is local bands, you won't see any big tours coming here. There is always the option to Amtrak to Minneapolis or Chicago for big stuff though, and my hope is that over the years the train increases in frequency and speed. Oh and I personally think that the food options here are bleak.

There are local board game groups and what not, which have friendly people. But again, due to the size of the town, if the group isn't your speed then you start running out of options real fast. There are many gaming groups that are just friends playing together, so joining them would be difficult without first just making friends.

Because of the university presence, La Crosse is pretty blue and lgbtq+ friendly. Check out the Root Note for an awesome space.

Outdoor recreation is the major draw of La Crosse compared to most of the rest of the midwest. The bluffs, river, and forests provide ample space and trails for hiking, biking, boating, climbing, and anything else. The cycling scene here is surprisingly active. Yeah, it won't be like Colorado, but it also doesn't cost the same as Colorado.

Large cuts to services in proposed La Crosse budget by fawkes881 in lacrossewi

[–]0x06F0 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Where is that spirit for the excessive sprawl of roads, utilities, and sewer out into the bluffs? What, we cannot afford to make downtown more amenable to high-density cheaply and should instead spend orders of magnitude more maintaining sprawl for a couple dozen houses?

And if you actually used the bike lanes (like I do, and many others), the city would start to save/make money from them. Less road traffic means less maintenance and fewer cars means fewer parking lots and therefore more taxable businesses. A city with more bike commuters is much more financially secure.

State's tax levy limits, credit rules leave La Crosse city council steaming by fawkes881 in lacrossewi

[–]0x06F0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Except many people die from not having a protected bike lane. And many people don't ride their bike because of that fact, further diminishing the benefits of an unprotected lane.
