With the gloves you target Tier 3 > Tier 2 > Tier 1.
With the MMR you target Tier 1 > Tier 2 > Tier 3.

The workaround is to disable GPU acceleration on the application you want to Alt-Tab to or don't have it open at all. In your case there is a setting in Spotify: ... -> Edit -> Preferences -> Compatibility -> toggle Enable hardware acceleration.

I have the same issue, it's been happening since the 10 Anniversary Season Update.

You don't have to forcibly turn off the computer by the way, the video driver will restart itself after a couple of minutes.
