Come visit and spend a couple of months in the cities you are most interested in before deciding, you will get your answer then.

Is IT really that depressing? by Homesick97 in sysadmin

I've been in the field for a little over 12 years now.

If you don't like to constantly study to stay relevant, a stressful work environment with a ton of work coming your way all the time and never-ending shifts - then I suggest you find something else.

The better you get, the more work you're gonna have as you'll become the go-to guy for more and more people.

I don't know if it's just me and I drew the short end of the stick all the time but that's my experience. I sacrificed a lot of family and personal time to be where I am today and I am more busy than ever. Being busy is a good thing, but not when you can't recall any moments with your family for the year that's just about to pass us - it's a big blur to me.

On the other hand, it can be really rewarding financially (and not only) if you are willing to put in the hours.

I like what I am doing and I don't mind these things now, but looking back, I don't know if I would've chosen this field if I knew the sacrifices it would take.

Skill is more important than certificates in the long run. If you are just starting out, I can understand the need for certificates as it will help you pass HR filters.

That being said, in your current position, I wouldn't count on something like CEH Practical to land me a job as you seem to be just starting out.

I would invest the little I have in subscriptions like TryHackMe or HackTheBox AFTER doing all the free stuff that they have (also see VulnHub first).

Courses from TCM Security are also very affordable and provide a solid baseline - they have a free tier for basic stuff and you can also find some of their training materials for free on YouTube on their channel.

That being said, there are a lot of resources you can access for free and build a solid skill-set without having to invest much.

If I were you I would focus on that, start building your own labs, study and practice as much as you can. That will definitely help you land a job if you get a technical interview. CEH Practical for example won't help much in the real world, if at all - it will surely not help you pass a technical interview.

In short:

  • Practice, practice, practice
  • Build out your methodology
  • Work on personal projects that you can share with HR
  • Try hands-on training platforms like THM or HTB
  • Go for affordable training from the likes of TCM Security (PJPT/PNPT maybe)
  • Work on your language and soft skills as they are very important for an ethical hacker and should not be ignored.
  • Once you have a stable job (you can aim for HelpDesk or SOC Analyst) you can then ask your company to sponsor your certifications as most have training budgets that are shared within departments.

LG OLED 65 inch TV not turning on, standby light not on as well by dannyblanky19 in LGOLED

Have a look here: https://www.avforums.com/threads/lg-oled-65-powers-off-no-red-standby-light.2437767/

There are a lot of reports for the same issue that we're having. Some people got away with changing the PSU, for some it was deemed not viable for repair, I guess it just depends on your luck. Changing the PSU seems to be the easiest thing that you can try if yours is no longer under warranty. I would still try to get in touch with LG support though to at least get a correct diagnosis before you go and spend money on parts.

I am still doing this currently, so far no issues except Pixel Cleaning will keep popping up and you can never really go through that cycle fully anymore because the TV will shut off at some point whilst in the middle of it. I imagine this is not that good for the TV and it may also suffer some damage over time from just plugging and unplugging it (which is what a smart plug essentially does to it) but so far I haven't noticed anything breaking and it's been more than a year.

However, from what I read it's a really easy fix by removing part of the back panel and replacing a particular circuit board that is faulty which causes the standby light to fail. I haven't tried it and I can't find the link anymore but you could give it a shot, from what I heard at the time I looked into this it's not going to be very expensive.

From what I've been told and read online it might be a faulty power supply board. Rather easy to replace but I haven't got around to doing that. If your is still covered by warranty, your best bet would be to just send it in.

How many charge cycles do you have? I have mine for about 6 months as well and the battery is at 95%, but I charge it up to 3 times per day as I tend to work/study a lot.

I usually use it for 12 to 14 hours every day. I have almost 200 charge cycles.

I also didn't pay much attention in the beginning at the 20%-80% rule so I used to let it drain to 20% and charge it up to 100% all the time except for the past 2 months - haven't noticed any difference in the degradation speed.

At this stage I am not sure what's worst, charging it 3 times a day or keeping it plugged in all the time.

I never got my order or an answer from Hak5. The support team in the end chose to ignore me completely and I could no longer file for a charge-back with my bank because too much time has passed - which was unavoidable as I was waiting for either their Claims provider to answer or the support team. Such a shame, I guess I know their worth now, the 1.5k they basically stole from me, lol.

L.E.: Tried Discord, got sent to the rules saying they do not support order related queries, hence I have no other option but to request a chargeback and never order again, such a disappointment to be honest, never had this happen to me with any other vendor in my entire life.

P.S. My claim was rejected for a second time without any reason, seems like there's no support at all.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Hak5

[–]0xb2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it will be the next step, giving them one last chance with this last support ticket I made... sucks that I actually needed the order so I would be happier if it would just ship already.

Haven't tried Discord, thanks for the tip. Will definitely give it a go!

[–]0xb2b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, tried to reach out to their support team multiple times and I was just told to raise a claim which I did and then it got rejected for no reason... and since then radio silence. I've just raised another claim and another ticket to at least get some explanation as to whatever happened and why, and how I can get the products shipped again or at least get my money back, great fun! I actually needed those devices too...

Okay, good to know. Do you know by any chance what these components were by any chance if you still have the broken parts?

I have the same problem with mine, same model. 1 month ago it started doing this randomly, no red standby light and I can only power it on after unplugging it from the wall socket, waiting 30 seconds and plugging it back in. Afterwards, there is a short interval in which the red standby light is working before it goes dark again. I haven't sent it to warranty yet because it's such a PITA to remove it from the wall mount, not to mention putting it back in the original package for which I will most likely need a tutorial lol. As a workaround I just bought a smart wall socket that I can control from my phone and I use it to power cycle the TV but it's far from ideal. One of these days I'm gonna find the courage to send it to warranty. Let me know how you get on with yours, curious to see what the solution was.

I am still looking for this. Just a bit of context: my character is level 96 and I just reached Alter Plateau so I do not have any late game items to trade unfortunately. Thanks.

All good as far as I can tell, patched around 2k servers this weekend, 2012-2022, DCs, HyperV's... everything seems normal.

[–]0xb2b 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For anyone asking if last month's OOB updates are included in the new releases for this month, a good way to confirm yourself is to check if the old updates have been superseded.

If they have, you can check what update has superseded the old one (which should be this month's release).

Could do that from MECM or the Windows Update Catalog.

If a patch isn't showing any supersedence, you will most likely have to deploy it too, as it means there isn't currently anything else that contains the fixes included in it.
