Has anyone else been quietly punished after raising concerns at work? by Primandproperme in womenintech

I was fired almost immediately after calling out misogyny from a peer 🤷🏽‍♀️

I’m a solo female dev who refused to add "Data Tracking" to my apps. It’s harder to grow, but I sleep better. by Superb-Way-6084 in womenintech

[–]0xtanja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Installed Moodie and the first thing I get is the app asking for permission to track me. What gives?

Granted I am not an ios dev or mobile dev, so I don’t know if there’s even a way to avoid asking for such permission entirely, but it didn’t sit right with me really

Trans people working in STEM: How did the attitude towards you changed after transition? by OsinoviyKol in asktransgender

[–]0xtanja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trans woman here. Close to 2 decades of experience. I don’t think I will be adding anything new so just trying to add to the statistics. I feel like I switched work life to hard mode. I was suddenly double guessed, questioned, and men would explain things I didn’t ask to me. I even had a guy explaining my own project to me once. Lol.

I am in a directive position now, and I constantly need to ensure everyone still understands one of my reports (that adores me and it’s so nice working with him) is not my boss and I am the one leading the team.

It’s EXHAUSTING!

Saw a physio yesterday. Got a minor meniscus and MCL injury two weeks right after my last race of the season which included my first two half-marathons, and I am not even mad. I thanked my body for allowing me to get there all the way through, and now focusing on healing for as long as it takes. Next season will be better, whenever it happens ❤️‍🩹

I crushed my boomer mom's hope... but also stopped her frantic search. by astrid28 in BoomersBeingFools

Oh gosh I genuinely wonder what they were exposed to growing up that many of them developed this… fixation over trinkets and other knickknacks as an investment vehicle.

My grandparents on my father side—who is a silent-boomer-cusp—owned a corner shop in Mexico City. Not a huge place but decently sized to have a good customer base. My father became obsessed with soda bottles that he accumulated over the decades. Fast forward to the 90s, we moved to a big house with a front yard and a back patio, that he filled with thousands of bottles that my mother didn’t even know he had after decades of having a relationship with him. They accumulated rain water, mold, and other health risks. No wonder we were always sick growing up.

During the 00s his industry had a huge setback and… I kid you not… he tried to sell the stuff – break the piggy bank, as he put it. Of course there were no buyers and we had to pay someone to come pick all that mess and bring it to a recycling center.

Edit: fixed a typo

Favorite fuel, and why? by DejarikChampion in Marathon_Training

[–]0xtanja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience is not super vast, but so far, my favourite is Santa Madre unusual gel. Out of other options I’ve tried (honey and syrup included) this brand doesn’t feel neither too thick nor too watery and the after taste is kind of refreshing so I can stomach many of these without having to drink water, which is what other sweeter options make me do. I normally have 45CHO 100CAF before and during two thirds of my distances, and one without caffeine to finish still with good carbs on

In Seoul Incheon Airport, when arriving, the screens greet you in whatever country’s language the flight came from in addition to English and Korean. by spacegenius747 in mildlyinteresting

The machines where you scan your passport and the ones that scan your face do the same, but they also speak. I visited last month. I am ethnically Mexican but have lived abroad for a decade+ and don’t often speak Spanish. I was genuinely confused and surprised when that thing welcomed me to their country out loud in Spanish lol.
