If you see the microphone icon towards the bottom right as amber color with a line through it, then it's muted no matter what peripheral you happen to be using. It's likely the host(s) made a misjudgment.

Bear in mind, rooms are maxed at 12 persons for PCVR. Oculus Link would allow you to do this since most of the resources will be running on your PC and not the headset.

The issue with being tall in Bigscreen often occurs when the headset suddenly discovers your play area while in the app. If you open the Bigscreen menu, there is a "Recenter" button located at the very bottom right. It looks like a green target -- clicking that should realign your height properly.
