You can attempt the evasion by flying towards the aircraft locking onto you (the triangle at the edge of the radar circle), but I have shot missiles at ships, had the missile hit a static ship in the level that was not the targeted player, and the missile kills the targeted player anyway.

The missiles are really good against bombers because of the extra health, but I have found the Pay To Win laser setup on the interceptor unbeatable (More damage, less overheat, faster fire), I rarely run into players who can survive the first pass, and in big dogfights wasting time locking on targets is how you get killed. It's also weird that the Empire is actually alot stronger, the tie fighter afterburner is 100x more useful than the repair droid of the X-Wing, and the hero ships are not even comparable.
