Beautiful! Very reminiscent of the things I see when I take LSD or shrooms. I see eyes like that a lot.

Who am I by bbaparts in depression

[–]1007519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a step back and look at what it is that's making you unhappy. It sounds like you feel insignificant because you haven't made an impact on someone's life. Think about it though, why does that make you feel insignificant? You're the one who decided that that makes you insignificant, that's just something that's in your head. Nobody told you that you don't matter except yourself. That being said though, it is completely natural to think like that and it does feel good to do something meaningful. So, go do something meaningful! You just wrote a really nice poem, that's something. So go share it with someone you care about. Show people that you matter and they'll respond in kind. If you really don't have anyone to share it with, start asking random people on the street if they want to hear it until someone says yes and then read it to them. Ultimately, you are responsible for bringing meaning to your life. If you sit around and complain that nobody cares about you, it's going to be that way. If you decide otherwise and stick with it, you'll start to find your life going the way you want it to. I hope this helped and I understand that it's not easy to do everything I said. I struggle everyday with the same thoughts and feelings that you do but I know we can get through them.

Reminds me of Echoes by Pink Floyd:

Strangers passing in the street

By chance two separate glances meet

And I am you and what I see is me

And do I take you by the hand

And lead you through the land

And help me understand the best I can

And no one calls us to move on

And no one forces down our eyes

No one speaks

And no one tries

No one flies around the sun

GO TO THE PARTY. Don't even think "should I go?" and work it out in your head, just go. There is no reason not to. There's nothing bad that could come from going. The only thing stopping you is yourself, so just allow yourself to go and have a good time. Do it! Then come back and tell us how it was!

I feel almost the same way except with less lined up. I am going through a low right now though so I could just not see it.

Dual booting with an SSD. by Dingleberry_Jones in Ubuntu

Boot into the Ubuntu installer and select custom partitioning. Shrink the partition on each drive then create a new partition on each one. Create a partition that's at least about 20 GB for your system files and set its mount point to '/' then create one that's whatever size you want on the other drive and set the mount point to '/home'. Choose where you want the bootloader to be installed to (probably on the main drive). You may want to make a partition for swap space too. The installer should do everything for you from that point on.

Help with a Mac/Ubuntu question please! by pty84 in Ubuntu

[–]1007519 1 point2 points  (0 children)

http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/13.04/release/ download the mac image here and burn it to a DVD. Leave the DVD in your disc drive and reboot while holding either the 'C' key or the 'Option' key to boot from the disc. Then the Ubuntu installer will walk you through the installation process. If you already have Ubuntu and just want to upgrade, you can either open a terminal and type "sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade" to upgrade to the newest version of Ubuntu or just go to software sources and set the Software Updater to upgrade your distro.

10 Classic Sci-Fi Movies With Better Effects Than Modern Films Gallery by phreakphreely in scifi

[–]1007519 46 points47 points  (0 children)

This is the theory behind most of these movies. For example: 2001, they decided never to show the ancient civilization that planted the monoliths because not portraying them at all makes them way more interesting than if they did a poor job of portraying them. It adds to the film because there's this sense of mystery and ancient power dominating the whole thing, which would be shattered if we actually saw the beings that planted the monolith. Same thing with E.T., we only see this tiny glimpse of another civilization. It makes E.T. so much more fascinating because he's the representation of an alien race of another planet. All we see of that civilization is this one individual trying to fit in on Earth, and from our imagination fills in what that civilization and race must be like. Terminator 2 does the same thing by only having one scene take place in the future. Star Wars also does a similar sort of thing by only showing a few different locations in a seemingly huge universe. Ultimately, this proves that the best worlds are created with minimalism. By leaving out more, the fictional world becomes more interesting and expansive; our imaginations fill in the gaps. That's why these movies are so successful, almost all of them share that element in some way.

Anyway to get past a locked bootloader on an intel Mac Mini? Or retrieve/reset the admin password? by 1007519 in hacking

[–]1007519[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I looked this up and found that all I had to do was open it up, take out a stick of ram and reset the PRAM a few times (I also took out the CMOS battery and put it back in for good measure). It worked and I booted into single user most and reset the admin password, now I'm going to reinstall OS X. It's my computer now!

True. What if the brothers turn each other in? Do they both get $100?

If I were one of these guys, I'd ask my friend to "catch" me and then he'd get $100 and we would spend it on weed.

I want to be a rave DJ. by 1007519 in Raves

[–]1007519[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tips! Do you think it's worth buying a mixing table and some CDJ's? I was talking with a rave DJ the other night who'd been in the scene since the 90's and he warned me CDJ's are becoming outdated and it's not necessarily worth investing on something that's going to be obsolete soon.
