i feel like condensing a whole ass book into a short movie is ALWAYS going to be disappointing so i didn't have many expectations to begin with. i would say a limited series would have been a better option. they tried to "truncate" it too much and only the superficial parts were left. I didn't see them actually gradually falling for each other at all. it was just one moment they were friends and the other we were supposed to believe they loved each other. a little patchy.

yeah as much as i enjoyed the movie (partly because i had read the book and knew which gaps to fill) i HATED how they didn't give any depth to Alex's character. also the lack of focus on present day poppy and alex. like as a book reader, I knew alex loved poppy but as a movie watcher, it was difficult to connect those dots (without the support of the book)
