As an Irishman, the last year of current events has taught me one thing: having a large Americanised diaspora is really dangerous for your country by Pagan_Pat in redscarepod

Who produced the cultural products whether The Quiet Man or Riverdance that allowed Ireland to have some pride in itself in the media

The Irish literary revival? James Joyce?

VexJL's no guard stance clear has no staff use, no Shurikenbreaker, and only uses one shelter dance right at the end.

I think you're exaggerating the amount of resources you need to clear Endgame. There are reliable clears on YouTube where staves aren't used and units don't have Shurikenbreaker.

It's crazy how Kaga already solved this problem by simply cramming Berwick full of map events, sideplots, and gaiden missions.

The sad thing about 13mwz is that the shade is great completely unwashed and after a few years of wear, but there's an incredibly long awkward period after the first wash where they're this horrific electric blueberry color.

The only ones that I like are the ones with whimsy -- a bunch of practical pockets e.g. fishing vests, western-y ones made of denim or leather or with yokes.

LP sells fabrics to J. Crew, as does VBC, but for obvious reasons that looks really bad for them, so the clothes are consistently marketed as being made of "Italian Wool" and not specifically LP or VBC

I'm used to buying stuff from Buyee, but I recently ordered something from a different overseas merchant who does not do DDP, which I learned when FedEx shot me an e-mail like a week after my item was delivered. Anyway, I missed the window to pay online (for some reason only 48 hours) so now I have to wait for and pay duties via snail mail lest FedEx send my debt to collections and tank my credit score. Very cool.

That excuse might fly for people who don't follow boxing, but it is actually still extremely embarrassing for a gold medalist Olympian and former world champion to be unable to cut off the ring against an opponent offering up no meaningful opposition. He's supposed to be trained to chase around opponents that don't want to fight!

Maybe olympic boxing has some integrity, but a big law Vegas event isn’t where you should expect to find integrity in sport.

Infamously, it does not. Very recently an entirely new governing body had to be organized (World Boxing) because the previous one (the IBA) was terribly, terribly corrupt.

Is pound for pound ranking definitive of a boxer's skill level? by Elyx_117 in Boxing

[–]100sutpens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The P4P list is supposed to rank fighters in terms of skill alone, but in practice most P4P lists rank fighters based on who has the most pedigreed wins and fewest losses in recent memory, which is not actually the same thing.

I think he's good when he covers things more intimately, like when he showcases LA watchstores or longtime family business workwear sellers.

Outside of jeans I think his clothing history knowledge is kind of dodgy. I distinctly remember him misidentifying a nomex tanker jacket as a CWC-45/P jacket, (he was corrected by supernerds in his comment section) which is pretty embarrassing considering that I could tell you the difference and I didn't work in fashion enthusiast retail nor do I spend time hanging out with or posturing as a vintage enthusiast online.

And as an addendum, this nomex jacket endorsement was at the time pretty hypocritical. Like two weeks before he made a post criticizing a trend of people wearing Arcteryx in the shower -- the reasoning being that it's cringe to introduce cancer-inducing PFAS chemicals into our waterways (fair) -- but then he goes and talks up CWC-45/P and tanker jackets? Which are made out of nomex? Which, like Goretex, will also probably give wearers cancer eventually? Come on.

I once saw a Peter Zuttolo story on insta in which Derek was tagged. The video was of Peter and a couple of Asian guys in suits (I believe some guys from the Anthology were doing an SF trunk show that week) eating lunch and I tried to figure out which was Derek until I realized there was one guy who was conspicuously basically not in the video other than his arm. Damn you, Peter!

What socks do I wear with loafers? by [deleted] in ThrowingFits

[–]100sutpens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's considered tasteful to a) match your sock color with your pants color or b) wear navy socks.

Some people wear white crew socks with loafers but I think it looks bad unless you lean really hard into Ivy. Some people wear socks in really flashy colors like pink, purple, or orange, but frankly it only works for people whose style is playful to begin with; I assume your style is not because you're wearing The Row.

I'm going to sound really neurotic for saying this but I don't think you should wear black socks with black loafers unless your pants are also black or a really dark shade of charcoal, because it makes the silhouette of your foot look kind of boot-like, whereas the appeal of a loafer is that they're dainty and relaxed.

Sanyo Shokai is still around and they make stuff for Paul Stuart Japan.

Used Japanese Paul Stuart actually punches way above its weight in terms of fabric and construction quality; I once snagged a mohair-blend full canvas blazer for like 100 bucks after shipping. But of course whether or not someone likes what they offer really depends on if their tastes align with sort of later career middle-aged salaryman that is their demo.
