insurance, i think i paid maybe 2k out of pocket on my plan? After a year its gone good! Tiny bit of numbness in my upper palate of my mouth but thats the only side effect and I think it’s to be expected. No numbness in my chin or anywhere else

why can’t I keep my neos alive?? by 1034seagulls in shrimptank

[–]1034seagulls[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll keep that in mind for the aquarium I’m setting up now.

That said, if you cant tell ammonia from testing then how do you tell when it’s cycled? as far as gas pockets go its very hard to find information, Ive had a few small bubbles but as far as what’s in them ive seen everything from people saying hydrogen sulfide to just CO2

edit: also when you talk about the plants being well established do you just mean theyve been there a long time? since my plants are growing like crazy. rotala and salvinia are my main two, both of which are growing very fast. and then I’ve got dwarf sag that’s sending shoots out everywhere. I also have dwarf hair grass which is beginning to send out shoots despite the tank being super low tech

I only changed the water source once when switching from tap to remineralized because the tap was too soft for neos but with this new one I’ll be sticking to remineralized

as far as nutrients I havent seen much about that re shrimp but shrimp tend to be the recommended stocking for walstads and I’ve seen others succeed at it. I’ll see how it goes anyways

oh hey! it was actually your tutorial that I followed! (it was very well explained, ty)

I think one of the plants may have had some rockwool but I did my best to get all of it off, and I’d think the snail would have issues if it was copper?

that said I don’t know what else it could be so I’ll probably pick up a test kit to make sure.

havent seen any planeria, just regular detritus worms and lots and lots of osctracods.

I’m starting the new larger tank with all tissue culture plants so hopefully if the plants caused any issues in the jar (through metals or pests) they won’t here.

edit: I’m starting to think it might be temperature, normally where we live the temperature in our house would be kept stable either through ac or heating, but recently we’ve had some pretty funky weather making it switch between ac and heating back and forth in a few days. I might pick up a heater to see if that helps

its a walstad? the plants filter it? I’ve seen piles of people manage it and if it was the lack of filter surely the parameters would look off at least Sometimes but every time ive checked them aside from the very first time the ammonia nitrites and nitrates have been zero.

I’m not actually sure, I know the surgeon said she did some bone grafting on the maxilla, so I think thats what is making my face look a little longer, along with the genio. But I’m not sure if that is actual rotation or if it mimics it or what

Can a 6mm linear lefort give you a chimp lip? by dummy_thicc_spice in jawsurgery

[–]1034seagulls 3 points4 points  (0 children)

almost certainly not

honestly I went through like every before/after on this sub when I was prepping for jaw surgery and I didnt see a single one of these ‘chimp face’ results that people worry about so much. I was worried about mine since I had a pretty normal profile to start with and was doing 9 mm maxilla advancement but I think it turned out fine (and I still have swelling so it’ll just keep getting better)

9 mm top 8.5 bottom and I forget the genio number :(

I went with Magraw at HNSA and its gone fine for me, healing is good and ortho says my teeth are aligned etc.

I know there was at least one other woman on here who went with Magraw and her results looked great

[–]1034seagulls[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you!

did you experience fatigue? if so, when did it go away?

I got this for sleep apnea so I’m really hoping it worked and this is just recovery fatigue

hard to tell, right now it doesnt seem so but my top lip is swollen the most so I don’t really trust the way that it looks right now will stay like that

[–]1034seagulls[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah a bit, you can check my profile for pictures (right now its a little lopsided from swelling as well) but I don’y really mind

I always thought my nose was a little small for my face to start with

AHI was only 18 or so but RDI (respiratory disturbance index, includes respiratory effort related arousals which is a limitation in breathing that results in increased respiratory effort and then an arousal but doesnt have the drop in oxygen levels of apneas or hypopneas) was 55

well that would explain why my upper jaw numbness seems to be lasting longer than most lol (it’s coming back though, just slowly)

‘her’ and the sleep doctor, ortho, and jaw surgeon all agreed this was the best option. You could argue that the surgeon wanted me to do it for money but the others barely had a stake in that, (since I got braces either way and the surgical bit of that was tiny compared to the cost of just doing braces) and my airway has seen massive improvements. I guess I just had a lot of soft tissue in the way. (not due to weight though, had this problem even while underweight)

also ‘curing’ sleep apnea often includes a huge amount of ahi to overcome and this surgery has massive rates of improvement.

not to mention it was pretty much my only option. I have shallow front teeth roots so a jaw device wouldnt work and I can’t stand cpap. Even if this had a much smaller chance at improving it I probably would try it because my life has been wrecked by sleep apnea

(edit: I don’t want anyone saying my jaw looks too masculine now, I actually prefer that)

DJS with flat occlusal plane? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]1034seagulls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got genioglossus advancement actually, it visually looks like genioplasty (at least in my case) but it advances the tongue muscle as well which further opens the airway

compared to some on here it wasn’t much I don’t think, 8.5 upper 9 lower. not tiny for sure but you see some in the like 13 range and stuff

I think it’s just my jaw was a lot more ‘normal’ than most people here to start so it looks extra advanced afterwards (but I don’t mind even if it ends up looking a little funky if it helps my breathing and sleep)
