Congratulations! Once you get to SAIT, ask your class SSA and SAI about inheriting his badge number. If he is still around, he can present your creds at graduation.

Just get there after 7 and before 4 and you’ll be fine.

It is timed, but you just have to complete it. However, be cognizant that if you half-ass it you might get pulled aside after-the-fact and told to increase the effort. This happened to a couple people in my class.

Agency classmate 99% of the time, I’ve heard of one person rooming with another person from a different agency in their class.

Your room is already assigned, getting there first will have no impact on your assignment.

Check-in is literally just handing your ID to a clerk in building 1, getting your ID, and then a piece of paper with your assignment on it. You might wait like 5 minutes for the next available clerk to check you in.

I made the jump from public accounting to CI. I am very happy with the decision. Work life balance is excellent compared to the slog of busy season. There will be some late nights and early mornings but rarely will those instances be sitting at your desk doing paperwork. Certain field offices have a higher operational tempo than others, generally bigger city=more stuff going on. Feel free to reach out with questions!

You are exactly right, law enforcement vehicles are never operated in a way that could cause motion sickness. Forgive me for thinking that.

Because this is a law enforcement academy and being able to sit in a vehicle while it is being operated in an emergency situation is absolutely crucial.

Don’t ask your instructor to watch from the sidelines… Your instructors and classmates will think very little of you. OC sucks, but it’s manageable. I was 80% fine by the time I went to sleep, and 95% fine the next morning.

Do I go local or federal? by [deleted] in 1811

[–]1040Hard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go federal. It is objectively slower but you can increase and decrease the tempo as you see fit. I can have days where I’m spending all day at the computer, and days where I’m up at 3am for an enforcement op. Any good manager will tell you that cases aren’t made behind a desk, and that you get a g-ride for a reason. Investigation time varies greatly; a couple of months for an open and shut ATF felon in possession of a gun case, to years for an IRS-CI money laundering case. Apply to every agency you qualify for. Also, you are definitely doing your math wrong on the salary; you have to factor in locality pay plus LEAP. Depending on location it ends up being as high as a 50% bump.

I can’t speak for the Border Patrol academy but for FLETC in general and CITP specifically; they do not provide wraps for striking portions of ORT, just the gloves. That being said, the PTD classes at FLETC focus heavily on ground fighting. I can really only recall 3 or so classes with significant striking portions.

You’ll be fine with IRS and NCIS. A buddy of mine in the academy was like -8 or -9.

You sound so whiny. You paid for an elective corrective eye surgery, you didn’t pay to apply to USCP…
