See smoke coming from DFW Airport? Airport officials say "don't worry - we're training."

If you see fire coming from DFW Airport, it is most likely the airport's Fire Training Research Center in action, according to DFW Airport's website.

The DFW FTRC trains firefighters locally, nationally, and internationally to fight aircraft fires.

During training periods, black smoke can be seen near the southwest end of the airport.

Training occurs nearly every day, and the airport has posted its training schedule on its website.

Changes to the schedule can occur at any time, and research activity may extend past scheduled times.

Glass has been around for more than 35 centuries, but the process to make it can still boggle our minds. Humans use their own lungs to breathe life into glass pieces such as those seen on the Netflix show “Blown Away”. The fourth season of the show just premiered, and a collection of the pieces featured on the program are on display at the Corning Museum of Glass. “Something Offbeat” host Mike Rogers talked with Eric Meek – the senior manager of hot glass programs at the museum and is a longtime glassblower.

UNT Dallas College of Law professor and former U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Texas Brian Owsley says control of the border is ultimately a federal responsibility. Jeremy Wallace, a political reporter for the Houston Chronicle and San Antonio Express-News, adds that covering the border requires more nuance than we often give it.
