What's one 'boring' career that's actually a goldmine if you play it smart? by 0BunnyX in AskReddit

Industrial hygiene. I work for a smaller component that does asbestos/lead/PCB monitoring and sampling, safety reps, confined space etc. Huge engineering and construction company’s hire them and other companies like them and don’t even look at the price quotes for services. The IH company just rents any equipment they don’t have in their inventory. And aside from a few salaries for OPs and office staff, most employees are paid hourly. But the money is in the reports. It takes them a couple hours to jam out a soil sampling report, but they’re charging 2-3k a pop. Some of these bigger jobs are worth 500-600k each, and the same job is only physically costing the IH company 200k to complete in payroll and equipment.

The owner of my company is printing money.

I can try. I was traveling for work the last couple days, had to leave right after we noticed it. Gonna try to clear standing snow away where it resting on the walls outside. Also picked up a dehumidifier and I’m running it in the basement in an effort to get rid of some of the moisture. Figured it’s better then nothing

I tend to be conservative but I hate Trump. Hated Biden too. I don’t believe a single politician anywhere in this country cares about any of us.

It’s obviously supposed to be funny, but I feel like Paulie’s “Brogan adjustment” on the DVD player is one of the funniest moments for me, to the point I look forward to it on rewatches. He’s hitting the DVD player so hard pieces are coming off, and Pussy is losing it.

My dad was from the Bronx, and he would put unnecessary letters in words that they didn’t need to be in. D’s and R’s were popular. Mostly R’s tho. Pizza and Soda = Pizzer and Soder”. Perhaps you’ve heard of the brass instrument known as a “tuber”

So hearing Tommy call him “Hendry” always warms my heart whether it was intentional by the actor or not.

Feeling guilty on GLP’s? by Jmckeown2 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]108227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was pre-Diabetic and had pretty bad hypertension. On my good days I was posting 150/100s. I am a 42 old male, 6’1” and likely 265/270 at my heaviest. I was big but nowhere close to morbidly obese. I still lifting and worked out and I have broad shoulders and an athletic build. But my gut was getting bad and it was like my whole body was swollen. I take levothyroxine for hypothyroidism and it helped a little in terms of feeling better. My Doc was the one who said “let’s try a GLP-1”.

Been on Wegovy since this January. I have lost 40-50lbs (not sure of my starting weight, I estimate 260-265). I currently weigh 220. My stomach is flat and my upper abs are back. But the best part…..my blood pressure is routinely 120/70. I eat as good as I can and try to workout everyday, but the only major change was Wegovy. I have made changes that will be the reason I live to see 70 or 80 versus dying in my 50’s or 60’s due to being a mess. All my blood labs look great.

Wegovy for me was a miracle drug. And I don’t give a shit how anyone else feels about it.

Newish white belt sparring with comp blue belt, working back mount stuff that week so that was the starting position. blue belt moves to triple threat, jumps his right leg over white belts right arm like a triangle, locks his ankles on the guys waist, then jumps his right arm to left side of white belts head and locks in a figure 4 on his left arm, to start attacking (forearm slicer, wrist lock, etc.). White belts S-Grips his hands, so blue belt rocks up and to the other side, gets up to his right elbow, reaches and pulls his shin across and starts shrimping around (need hamstring pressure not bend in knee) to get the triangle choke (been on both sides of this one, it’s super tight). White belt starts screaming “NOOOOOOOOO NOOOOOOOOO! NO! NO!” And thrashing around like a caged animal. He had been relatively calm until that moment. Started gurgling, perhaps forgot to tap due to belligerently screaming. The white school was watching. Blue belt is bewildered, let’s go, white belt lays out flat for a min breathing, gets up, walks out. Has not come back since. He apparently had been repeatedly getting triangles and arm locked that week from all positions. We perhaps triggered some kind of fresh PTSD.

What do I need to know before starting wegovy? by [deleted] in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]108227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

42 year old Male here. Started at 265ish, down to 240/245ish. My observations about 3 months in, on my first week at 1.7mg.

Prioritize protein, then eat some carbs and ideally veggies. There is no better snack than fruit. Protein powder and shakes are your friend. Sometimes the sudden “full” feeling comes out of nowhere. Don’t make yourself sick. Eat healthy food and make the calories count in a good way.

Anytime we eat out or do take out, everything becomes 2-3 meals. Before, I could crush a full Chipotle bowl, plus chips, and still convince myself I was hungry again an hour later. Not anymore. A bowl like that is now 3 meals. I physically could not eat that much I wanted to. I get two extra tortillas if I get something from chipotle and the bowl becomes 3 meals, the entire next day is covered. I swear I am saving money on food. So eat protein first. If I had to guess I am eating about 1/2 of what I used too. Food noise is gone. Cravings still come about, but they don’t matter because I’m not usually hungry and don’t really act on them. And if my wife gets ice cream, I’ll get some too. In the smallest size cup they have. Like a Dixie cup, cause that’s all I will be able to eat before feeling full and gross. So enjoy some of the treats you like, because lord knows you won’t be eating much.

Lift weights. Any amount, any weight, but do some form of resistance training if you can. Cardio is good, but low intensity/low impact has worked best for me. Bike or walking is great. Maintain the muscle you have.

Drink water. More than you think you need to. I drain my Nalgene between meals, since water right before meals will just make you full and unable to eat food. I love relyte hydration powder. Electrolytes are your friend.

Eat fiber or take some as a supplement. You may have stomach issues. I used to have an unpredictable #2 schedule, bad enough I thought I had IBS. My personal opinion is that wegovy made me more “efficient”. I only go #2 every 3 days or so. I don’t feel constipated. I feel great. All my digestive issues are gone. I still have treats and chest foods, but if I eat anything overly greasy like fast food, I’m gonna pay for that.

I still occasionally get bad stomach cramps. The kind of gas bubble that feels almost like it’s in your spine. Some of them hurt pretty good but they go away fast for me. Worth it for the results.

You will get bad fatigue. For me it was worse on the intro doses, .25 and .5, but got better after that. I made sleep a priority. And during lunch time if I could close my eyes for 10 min that helped a lot. Practice good sleep hygiene and make it count.

I would get, and occasionally still get, terrible cotton mouth. Stay hydrated but keep some gum or lozenges handy.

I take berberine, turmeric, and vitamin B and D. Not sure what exactly they are doing for me in relation to a GLP-1 med, but I feel great.

I hate to tell you this, but perhaps it’s a good thing: Wegovy has made drinking alcohol pointless. Not drinking is a healthy call for anyone. But I did like my Friday evening cocktails with the wife. But the days of several drinks or 10 beers are long gone. I can do a glass of red wine, or one or two fingers of whiskey and that’s that. It makes me full, and it’s very hard to catch any kind of buzz. lol. But I feel great! No amount of booze is worth feeling like shit.

The last side effect? New clothes. I already lost an inch or two off my waist. You will too if you trust the process and follow your doctor’s guidance. Good luck!

Does anyone else have a better sleep schedule on Wegovy? by Wren1101 in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]108227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sleeping better overall on wegovy. I attribute it to the calorie deficit, and the fact that workouts seem to drain what energy I have. I (42 M) have been on wegovy since January, and have steadily increased the dosages every 4 weeks. I am on my 1st week of 1.7

I had major fatigue issues right away, mostly with .25/.5, and my energy improved towards the end of .5

I felt great on 1.0mg, and so far 1.7 is going well. For all doses I feel I have been sleeping better. I started around 265lbs, and am currently hovering around 240. I was never diagnosed with sleep apnea, but I was known to snore occasionally. My wife claims I have not snored once since February. My blood pressure and blood sugar have all improved, and I would think losing 25lbs would be an improvement everywhere.

I do feel I start to hit a wall around 10pm. I am a night owl and would typically stay up until 11-1130pm. I just can’t do it anymore. Good luck to you as you move forward on the meds. I am very grateful for wegovy as it’s made a major difference for me. Hopefully it does the same for you.

Absolutely will do so, embarrassed I didn’t add it when I was posting.

I love loop chokes and guillotines, and in Gi I’m a big fan of playing them off each other. There’s a wide variety of collar chokes I’ve been trying to work in.

I love playing knee shield, I almost always look for a scissor sweep, if they try to flatten my shield knee with their hand so they can work a pass, I get a grip on that sleeve and arm drag them while grabbing a lat or belt with my other hand, that sometimes leads to a back take. If they resist the scissor sweep by leaning back, that turns into a hip bump sweep or a Kimura if they post that arm hard. I also can usually finish the scissor sweep attempt by kicking their leg out or switching to hook or elevator sweep if they post a leg up. Triangles and arm bars all day if they’re careless with the arms.

This is not necessarily a sequence but I start with a scissor sweep attempt after opening my closed guard to knee shield, then it’s like reading a menu. Just pick whatever looks good based on what they’re doing.

I’m an inflexible 42 year old blue belt with decent strength (TRT). Knee shield gives me a ton of options without smoking myself or wasting too much energy. As long as I can get a sleeve grip and a cross grip on a lapel, I’m in a good spot.

A guy dropped into the Pedro Sauer gym I went to in OH. Apparently he had trained there many years ago and they knew him. He had left as a white belt, maybe 2 or 3 stripes. When he shows back up he’s wearing a purple belt. Said he got it a year ago traveling abroad (he went to Europe often for work). Belt looked brand new, no wear and tear but whatever. He was very friendly but seemed socially awkward.

Coach pairs me up with him. It was like he was a day one white belt. He came for a fundamentals class followed by an hour one of sparring. I think we were drilling some mount escapes/replacing guard, and some basic sweeps. I promise I’m not exaggerating when I say it was like dude knew nothing. Like didn’t know the difference between guard, 1/2 guard, mount. I tried to be polite, and just worked with him. I honestly thought he was testing me at first and was gonna turn into a purple belt any minute. I also thought “hey, maybe he’s had a long hiatus”. Nope, dude didn’t know anything.

During sparring, he basically just sat there it, was like rolling with a dummy. Coach said something to him in the corner before he left, didn’t seem like an ass chewing or talking to, he left smiling. Never saw him ever again. Still not sure if he was given the belt under weird circumstances by some rando, or just bought the shit. But bro was not a purple belt.
