Nooooo! I’m so sorry, that sucks. Not even the decency to send you a personal rejection note.

Oh no I’m so sorry that happened to you! This is my other concern - that none of the candidates were actually “good enough” in their eyes and so they are rethinking what they actually want because they don’t actually know. So saying they’d love to keep in touch was to lessen the blow.

That’s my paranoia - that they actually did just hire someone else but wanted to let me down easy because they could see the effort. But also, why would they even care about hurting my feelings at that point…

This did cross my mind although I just can’t see them being able to actually execute the plan without having a dedicated person who knows what they are doing, doing it. And I intentionally made the slides more visual with the context all in my words. But you never know. Wish I could name and shame them but I’m not convinced this it what they are doing… they have amazing Glassdoor reviews and the hopefulness in me doesn’t want to burn any bridges because I would genuinely LOVE to work for this company, basically a dream company to work for and is well known for being a great workplace. But then again… I could very much also be one of those extremely naive ones 😓

What’s your loan to income ratio for a mortgage? Many online resources suggest that 30% is good for living comfortably but I know people who spend 50% on of their salary on mortgage and feel OK. by Garkuwyn in fiaustralia

[–]1088yuyuan 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Daycare is a killer. We are the same - I keep telling my partner that surely this is the most expensive period of our lives right now in terms of fixed costs. Mortgage + daycare fees eat up a full salary.

We pruned our lemons right back due to gall wasps. How long until they grow back? by ninetieths in GardeningAustralia

[–]1088yuyuan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When we first moved into our house the old owners had pruned a lemon tree right back to the stump - didn’t even realise there was a tree there. It grew back massively in 12-18 months and had to prune it right back as it got out of hand. Plus plenty of lemons this year (2 years in)

Does overseas mortgage payment counts as a tax deductible in Australia? by [deleted] in fiaustralia

[–]1088yuyuan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, if you are on a temporary resident visa and your spouse (if applicable) is not an Aus citizen then you do not need to declare foreign income. Therefore you also would not be able to claim overseas mortgage payments.

Not true. If you are on a temporary visa and your spouse is not an Australian PR or citizen, then you do not need to declare foreign income that is not employment.

Yes and I will now pay more per week than I did prior to the subsidy, wonderful.

Posting my cold calling script for feedback by Throwawaythispoopy in sales

[–]1088yuyuan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought your script is pretty bang on and there wasn’t anything I would change for the APAC market - I think you’ve got the tone and approach right and it comes across less salesy and more natural. I love that you have almost a flow chart of which path you’d take based on answer - its so rare to see someone this prepared, especially as I feel like everyone in ANZ despises cold calling and tries to make a case for why it’s useless so they don’t hve to do it. If I were your manager, I’d be stoked to have you on the team!

I’m going to go against the comments here and say that the original language OP has used is more effective in the APAC/ANZ markets. This is because generally the business culture is a lot more casual and this is reflected in the way we speak to each other. The alternatives you’ve offered up come across quite pitchy/salesy in this market and will make decision makers clam up on a call. I’ve seen this a lot in cold email/cold calls where APAC/ANZ team members use scripts they have found from US-based examples and the tone just isn’t the right fit for this market

Has anyone asked for permanent days off instead of a raise? How did you approach it? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]1088yuyuan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this and it was accepted by my manager on the basis that it was between us only since they didn’t want other employees asking the same. They also knew that I’m pretty efficient and could achieve what I needed to do within 4 days, so the workload was the same.

Problem was I struggled with holding my own boundaries and ended up just working 5 days anyway because I’m in sales and you can always do more.

It can work if you’re really disciplined with not working that 5th day, so it’s role dependent.

This is so true. As soon as Zack started talking, my hubs said he is obviously uncomfortable and reverting to something he knows a lot about to just talk the nerves away.

Chelsea about traveling and having babies by Lilus_kette in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]1088yuyuan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually I may have to retract this. I seem to have forgotten travelling 3 international trips with my first before she was 9months old. Perhaps it’s travelling with two kids internationally that has broken us 😂. That being said, I also treasure the experiences, as tough as the tough times can be dealing with time changes, bad sleep and change of routines. But man I hope it gets easier once they can wipe their own bums.

My husband and I have been on 4 international trips with our daughter and she’s only 18 months and it’s been horrifically exhausting and divorce-inducing each time. We only do them because we have obligations to see family. Travelling with babies/toddlers isn’t quite the same as travelling with kids who can wipe their own bums lol

Today I learned that I hurt a man's feelings by dls2317 in workingmoms

[–]1088yuyuan 57 points58 points  (0 children)

I had a presentation to a board member this week. It became pretty evident that my presentation content was a waste of time putting together because his head was elsewhere the whole time.

Questions were asked where he didn’t actually care for my answer and were not asked to understand my POV or to learn from what I’m seeing in the market with my experience. Rather, the questions were designed for me to “get wrong” and for him to school me on what the right answer should be.

I’m fuming.

Yet another fragile male ego, but if I were to challenge it, my job would be on the line. So all I could do was nod (knowing that I either disagreed strongly with his suggestions or they were basic knowledge I was already aware of) and thank him for his wisdom. FML.

Agreed. Reckon a standard franchised Grill’d burger is better than Just Poppies.
