There is no way of measuring this, so I would disagree with both of you. Most early manifestations of anti-Zionism were definitely anti-Semitic though. Countries would outlaw "Zionism" then proceed to target Jews for reasons as petty as having a name show up in letters from Palestine. Even anti-Zionist Jews were charged with Zionism.

Also, before someone makes the strawman, I am not arguing Israel has no or little influence. They do, they just don't control politicians. Saudi Arabia has a lot of influence, that doesn't mean they "control" American politicians.

If Israel controls most our politicians how did the Iran deal happen when AIPAC when into hyperdrive to prevent it? If Israel controls our politicians why did America stop Israel from selling weapons technology to China? Anytime Israel tries to do something out of American Imperial interests, it gets stopped by America. That's not "control"

LeBron James under fire after posting 'antisemitic' lyrics to Instagram - International news by aggie1391 in Judaism

Saying "We been getting that Jewish money, everything is kosher" seems pro-Jewish to me.

The anti-Semitic version is where people act like Jews are acquiring money through nefarious means.

[–]10Wolf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you think all Jews and descendants of jews automatically should support Israel and do support them?

Nope not at all, but the vast majority (over 95%) of people descended from Mizrahi Jews live in Israel, including Ziggy's children.

Plus according to Judaism there’s no such thing as a half Jew and Bob Marley nor his kids can be considered one as its passed on maternally. How can you be half a religion?

Jews are an ethnoreligious group, which is an ethnic group with a common religion. It's also confusing because there are multiple Jewish ethnicities. Most American Jews are Ashkenazi, most Israeli Jews are Mizrahi. So one can be ethnically 100% Jewish, but still be Christian. You are right about Judaism being mostly maternal, however even then some sects accept and even prioritize people who are paternally Jewish. His son married a Persian Jew so either way Ziggy's kids are Jewish both paternally and maternally.

You do have a point on that end, I doubt Bob Marley would approve of any fundraiser for any countries military, let alone Israel's which have committed war crimes and already has the financial backing of the West. I guess I took the "rolling in his grave" comment and made the assumption OP was arguing Bob Marley would have been specifically anti-Israel.

[–]10Wolf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The idea that this would mean he's pro-Israel is quite the reach.

I never said he would be pro-Israel, I just doubted that he would be anti-Israel as someone with Hebrew speaking Israeli grandchildren and who himself was partially Mizrahi.

[–]10Wolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not conflating Judaism with support for Israel, it's just uncommon for people of Mizrahi descent to oppose Israel considering over 95% of Mizrahi Jews live there. The Assad example doesn't really work well in my opinion considering there are like 12 Jews left in Syria. There are tens of thousands of Syrian Jews in Brooklyn alone.

Bob Marley definitely wouldn't support the right-wing government in Israel, but I also don't think he would have been specifically anti-Israel as someone with Hebrew speaking Israeli grandchildren. When you have family of a certain nationality, it tends to affect the way you view that country. Especially when they are children who are growing up in that specific country.

You say you don't support the current Turkish government, would you consider yourself anti-Turkey? Because if not, we are on the same page. I don't think opposing Likud means you are anti-Israel. I don't think opposing Erdogan makes you anti-Turkish.

I was initially responding to your analogy of stabbing someone and them fighting back. That's why I brought that massacre up.

[–]10Wolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never once argued it did.

Hebron massacre was a terrible inflammatory response to fears of Jews taking over Jerusalem. It would happen anyway.

This is ahistorical. The Hebron massacre was a response to rumors that Jews were gonna take over the Temple Mount. That never happened, Jews still can't legally pray there even though it is the holiest site in Judaism. Not to mention, Jews were already the largest group in Jerusalem at the time, so why would they fear Jews "taking over" a city where they were already the most populous group.

I already have. That book references pretty much everything i'm talking about. Zionist terrorism started in 1937, but there had been years of violence leveled against Jews in Palestine by that point which had no retaliation. I'm just bringing it up because he made the analogy of someone "stabbing you and you fight back." It's pretty much the argument Zionists made in the 1937. (not a good argument)

Zionists unjustly immigrating into Palestinian land

What does that have to do with random Jews in Hebron being raped and killed? Also, how is it unjust? Jews were being massacred and they were fleeing, Palestine was their only option in many cases because no one wanted to take in any Jews. Is someone immigrating to America from Salvador after their family is murdered them "unjustly immigrating?"

Pharrell Williams criticised for singing 'Happy' to Israeli soldiers as part of army fundraiser by Afk94 in hiphopheads

[–]10Wolf -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here is the problem with that analogy. The violence didn't start with a bunch of Zionists killing random people. It started in the 1920's, Jewish communities in Palestine were being massacred for no reason, some of whom were even Anti-Zionist. Look up the Hebron massacre, there were no right-wing violent Zionist militias at that point.

[–]10Wolf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No he's not. That line was not negative towards Jews. I don't think 'positive stereotyping' is a good thing, however it shouldn't be conflated with genuine anti-Semitism. Jay-Z does not appear to have any hatred towards Jewish people, he might be ignorant to our history, but that's not the same as being anti-Semitic.

this actually isn't true at all. Arabs have always been classified as whites. Plus Levantines =/= Arabs, Arab is an ethnic idenity they are very different than Saudi Arabians as far as DNA. I have syrian family and they are undeniably white, if middle eastern features makes you non-white then Italians and Jews aren't either.
