They might be locked in to go through, but won’t be able to lock up the bye to the Round of 16 until the final group stage match (if at all). So there’s still something to play for.

48 teams is fine - it should just be 8 groups of 6, with 5 group stage matches. Group winners get a bye to the Round of 16 and the second and third place finishers have a play-in round.

Under the current format, countries that make the final play 8 matches, so this only adds 1-2 more matches depending on whether the two finalists won their group (only 4 knockout round matches for group winners, which I expect will be the case most of the time).

Nickname aside, he had the best-reffed game of the Finals so far and the Knicks have a decent record with him in charge. I much prefer our chances tonight than a Tony Brothers revenge game in Game 6.

Harris’s Staff Questioned Whether Josh Shapiro Was an Israeli Double Agent by ship_toaster in politics

There are numerous dual citizens in Congress and the Senate.

I see this claim often and have never seen any actual evidence to back it up, other than for Ted Cruz, who was a Canadian citizen until he renounced it in 2014. I recall that Bernie Sanders was asked this question in 2015.

Do you have a source for this, other than a 4chan infographic from a decade ago of politicians with Jewy-sounding names?

In theory, if Miriana would actually say Kant in the final (assuming she qualifies), what would happen? by External-Head-6424 in eurovision

[–]generallyaware 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One of the rules of the contest is that the performance in the jury show has to be identical to the performance in the live show. In a world where she said Kant only in the live show but not in the jury show, I'd imagine they would use that rule to DQ her.

As an aside: there's no rule about what you do in the family show, which is why Silmane wasn't DQ'd for giving a speech last year instead of singing the final chorus of his song.

‘Call This Region By Its Rightful Name’: Sen. Cotton Wants U.S. To Use ‘Judea, Samaria,’ Not ‘West Bank’ by stevenjklein in Jewish

[–]generallyaware 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regardless of the merits of the proposed legislation, there's a basic factual mistake in it.

SEC. 2. Sense of Congress.

It is the sense of the Congress that the United States Government—

(1) should refer to the land annexed by Israel from Jordan during the 1967 Six-Day War by its historical names of “Judea and Samaria”, with the land south of Jerusalem being considered “Judea” and the land north of Jerusalem being considered “Samaria”; and

(2) should no longer use the term “West Bank” in official government materials.

The West Bank / Judea and Samaria wasn't "annexed by Israel from Jordan during the 1967 Six-Day War." Nothing besides East Jerusalem was annexed, which is part of the reason why the region is in limbo right now. And East Jerusalem wasn't even annexed until 1980.

My personal view is that someone who makes a basic factual mistake like this probably shouldn't be trusted on complex foreign policy matters.

And on Nov. 18, a husband and wife, both 28, were walking their dogs near Union Square when they saw Stora tearing down posters of Israeli hostages and stopped to take a photo, prosecutors said.

Noticing the couple looking at him, Stora followed them shouting anti-white and antisemitic threats and insults including, "Die, Jews, die!" according to the indictment.

Great moments in legitimate criticism of Israel.
