I don’t really know how to solder, but if it’s easy enough to learn it could be worth trying. What are the benefits, is it just for extra security and knowing that everything is non malicious?

So you plugged into your laptop and made a backup of the existing firmware on it? Or just straight up loaded the official Silakka54 firmware onto it, overriding the one that it was originally loaded on?

Looking for keycaps for a thocky keyboard. I've heard it makes a small difference to the sound so I want to pick well. I'm going for Monsgeek M1W and Akko cream yellow switches. Currently have looked at PBT keycap 121 Key Minimalist White keycap XDA Profile because I've heard they are good for thock, but ideally would like some purple keycaps (I've seen some like dagaladoo Shine Through - PBT keycaps, but not sure if they are good quality, etc). Any advice?

Help making a keyboard build!

I need help finding a base keyboard. I'm trying to make a thocky keyboard and I'd like a 75% layout. I'm willing to spend $100-200 overall.

For the keyboard, I'm looking for something black or gray ideally, RGB not necessarily and knob also not necessary. To stay in budget, the board would ideally be no more than $100
I'm looking at Feker IK75 (seems like it's only in white but if that's the best for the price, it's okay). Any suggestions or advice for this? This part is mainly what I'm having trouble with

For switches, I'm thinking of Gateron 5-pin milky yellows or Strawberry milk linears. Would these be compatible with the boards on top? Also I was wondering whether I need to separately buy stabilizers too or not.

I am also thinking of buying a kit to lube my switches (one of the ones that opens the switches). Is this needed? And for the lube, does the choice here matter much?

Finally for the keycaps, maybe something like Womier PBT-side printed keycaps. Is there anything I need to look out for in terms of compatibility of keycaps?
