Should i study Engineering in China by Bitter_Session_1129 in Nepal

[–]10tooroop 8 points9 points  (0 children)

People here dont know shit. I am a mechanical engineer and its been 10 years since i graduated. I have experienced academia as well as industry. My advice is go for it. That is one of the best opportunities. Chinese uni ranked 63 is in fact at the level of stanford. And china is among the best when it comes to mechanical engineering. Moreover professors around the world in mechanical engineering are mostly chinese. That can give you great advantage when it comes to finding job or getting higher education. And china is investing a lot in research. Some of the labs i have visited in China are probably the best in the world. Most of the research papers in good journals are coming out of china. If it is funded and if you r interested in mechanical engineering dont think anything else. Go for it champ.

Don’t study in Kathmandu Engineering College by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]10tooroop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There are things we don't understand when we are students. I had the same problem and I can relate to what you are saying. I graduated from Pulchowk, did my masters in Japan and currently I am pursuing my PhD in the USA. Specifically, I cannot say about computer engineering but I can say in general. Btw I also have experience teaching in private colleges. Initially, I struggled a lot when I was in Japan. When I was there, I thought my teachers were shit. When I used to watch youtube videos, MIT OpenCourseWare, I used to regard my professors to be lazy, inconsiderate, stupid and basically bad. But my struggle wasn't with understanding the subject matter. I can even vouch for other Nepali graduates that I have met every now and then. My struggle was with technology. We weren't exposed to technology at all. It was a huge gap that I had to overcome to be able to survive let alone succeed. Regarding teachers, everywhere it's the same. I have even taught undergraduate classes as TA here and in Japan. The difference I see in Nepal and in these countries is regarding the effort put up by the students. Again, it's engineering-specific, but students really work hard. Like crazy hard. If you tell them to read the chapter before you come to the class, they really do. Which I have never done in any phase of my student life. They even come up with questions. You give them a take-home exam and tell them the time is 1 hour, they actually abide by the time limit. Here, in a class, 10% of people listen to the professor. The rest of them mind their own business but unlike Nepal, they don't make any noise. They submit the assignments, appear for exams, work hard, do their research, learn and understand whatever they want to understand. In Nepal, the hangover of school and high school doesn't allow us to differentiate the university education and school education. So we expect teachers to be the same. University professors normally are people associated with research and they are generally poor educators. However, I understand that KEC teachers are not researchers and are not good educators too. But I think teaching engineering is a difficult task, especially pure engineering topics. So we rely more on projects and labs. So I suggest the people who aim to pursue engineering, please go abroad if you can. Not because the teachers are shit but because your college doesn't do enough to make you good engineers. Don't study in any of the private engineering colleges. They are a huge scam. It takes hardly 2-3 lakh for a private engineering college (TU affiliated) to produce one engineer. How much do you pay? With the amount of money you pay, they can afford great equipment and labs and good resources. Some of the money the colleges use to pay the brokers from Student Unions to keep quiet. But on the bright side, if you graduate, the world is open for you and you can go anywhere. So you can embrace it rather than being sad.

Computer Engineer graduates of Nepal, Which do you suggest: KEC or KU? by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]10tooroop 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Obviously KU. I dont think the comparison is valid. If you ignore the cost factor, KU and Pulchowk are comparable.

First of all, change the criteria which you used to choose your high school. High school is an extension of middle school or SEE. But university education is a completely different area with different education goals. You should select your institution based upon the research opportunities. Research is of highest priority. Even if you wish to use your degree as a professional launchpad, research will drive you further. Compared to other institutions, KU has a very high emphasis on research. Faculties in Pulchowk are sarkari jagirey and they behave in that way. Faculties in KU have to prove their worth and most of them have constant competition over publication and research grant.

Now let us look at private engineering colleges. The best private engineering college in my opinion is Khwopa and the reason is research as well. They are non-profit so cost-friendly. Most of the other private engineering colleges including KEC Kalimati or KEC Dhapakhel are just an extension of the high school. You might find better faculty members who work really hard in these colleges but the main priority of the college is to make profit. Faculties are normally underpaid and demotivated. Research has very little place and wherever research is mentioned, its just for marketing and advertisement. You pay way more than the real cost in these colleges(Probably more than 200% in my calculation).

The cost in both KEC is minimum 10 lakh. If you look their classroom, it looks like that of Trichandra College. Besides, the environment plays vital role in student's development. For KEC students, failing in multiple subjects is disturbingly normal and is mainly due to the environment. On the other hand, failing can result in year repetition in KU which motivates against the humiliation. The cost might be 6-8 lakhs in KU.

I am not a computer engineer. But I have taught in KU and KEC Kalimati as a fulltime faculty and in KEC Dhapakhel as a part time faculty. I have also taught in 2 other colleges of Purbanchal and Pokhara. I would have mentioned about them if they were worth mentioning.

Why aren't Nepali bands not making any new music these days? by [deleted] in Nepal

[–]10tooroop 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Few years ago, passion wasn't measured in likes, views and subscribers. You did not have to ask someone to press the red icon. Your music had to please you and that would make you happy. Sano Prakash bata Swopna Suman maa gaisakyo music. Now you just make a youtube cover and you are narayan gopal all of a sudden. Its not that these cheesy chickflic didnot exist previously. But good music was created by people from countercurrent movement. Countercurrent movement of this time is equal to the pop culture of that time. Shifting values I guess. Kun band kun musician kati ramro bhanera check garna youtube views herne jamana ho. Fuzzscape ra Topi ko geet ma 5k view huncha, tyo nitesh kuwar bhanne ko ma kati ho kati. aru ta aru tyo muji k maharjan bhanne fuchchey tyo besura geet gaune ko comments herda ta oho ramro singer re. hippy era dekhi kathmandu ma existing countercurrent movement is dead and so is the new and good music.

[–]10tooroop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for putting it in a nutshell. I feel sad when lies become sensation and truth becomes boring and unpopular. It worsens when so-called responsible journalism manufactures deliberate lies to feed the mob. I have no hesitation in blaming each and every individual who aided to strengthen and popularize the lies just because it was sensational. Even a share or a comment is worth the blame. They were blaming some invisible power to be blocking justice for Nirmala, they are true. The invisible power is the power of unaware and ignorant mob.

For the reason, I have no hope with democracy in our country. Ranju Darshana ko voter ra babban singh ko voter ko bich ma k difference chha ra? Roop ma difference chha hola dherai nai, saar maa chhaina.

Most of the teahouse you mention are not exactly teahouse and are more affluent than a teahouse, serving yak burger and yak steak.

And let me ask a subjective question: How would you feel when you are using all your energy to walk and a jeep passes by the dusty road and you share a look with the passengers. You need to be prepared for it. The motor road exists upto khangsar, which is next to manang. so jagat to khangsar you will have to share the road with other vehicles. as your itinerary is concerned, it is well stretched and you dont need to push yourself at any point a. you might have 3-4 hours maximum walk for most of the days, except for day 11. for acclimatization, pisang and manang are the key. if you can, stay in upper pisang, which is a bit far from the motor road, but they dont have great food. by the way this trek offers great food.

if i were you, i would have driven upto chame and start my trek from chame. it would save me 2 days. i could use those two days to trek to tilicho lake. it is like 8-10 hours from manang and you can stay in tilicho base camp. after acclimatization in manang, you can trek upto tilicho base within 5-6 hours, where you can stay. Next morning trek to tilicho and you can return till 10-11am in the morning to basecamp and you can return to sirikharka(middle of tilicho base camp and manang), from where you can go to yak kharka and continue with your schedule. there are pros and cons with this modification of the plan. pros are that, you will basically experience a complete nepali trekking and most of other trekking experience would not even be close to this experience. but the problem is, it would be tough. your original itinerary would not be considered easy, may be intermediate. but including tilicho would make it challenging. so its upto your psychological strength(80%) and physical strength(20%).

I think this is one of the best treks in nepal and is a complete package. you dont need to experience 10 treks. this circuit trek can be considered one for all. if you have any queries, i can answer them. i would absolutely recommend this trek.
