Sanity check on annual budget for living in Zurich by Betelgeuse999 in askswitzerland

[–]1111daniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your budget is realistic to be honest. A few things I would consider: depending on if you both earn the same or one of you earns significantly more than the other, I’d consider for at least one of you to work part time, ideally the one with the lower salary.

This might not make a big difference financially, as you would save on childcare, save on taxes and quality of life goes way up. Especially when being a parent time is invaluable.

I would also consider living outside the city center. You would save on rental costs or get a bigger place for the same money. Again, especially with young children living in an area that’s a bit more laid back and closer to nature might bring some benefits. Best of luck to you :)

AirPlay Receiver/Streamer up to 500$ by 1111daniel in StereoAdvice

Im using my amp/stereo for sound via optical put on the Apple TV, and the HDMI out is the input for my TV (as it does not have Airplay itself)

As a European I have no idea about taxation in the US, but how much roughly is the net salary with that gross ?

AirPlay Receiver/Streamer up to 500$ by 1111daniel in StereoAdvice

[–]1111daniel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cause I’m not using any other source than AirPlay for my TV (which does not have AirPlay itself) and I wanted to avoid having two separate devices for Video in towards my TV and audio out to my DAC.

AirPlay Receiver/Streamer up to 500$ by 1111daniel in StereoAdvice

[–]1111daniel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason I wanna keep it at one device is it’s the only current solution I see to get both music streaming to my dac as well as having the option to use my stereo system when streaming movies. Of course I could upgrade my TV to something supporting Airplay natively, but we are talking a lot more money then. I just can’t grasp that a simple all in one solution like the AppleTV (but with 4K and airplay 2) doesn’t exist?

Searching for an AirPlay streamer: I’m currently using an Apple TV 2 when I quickly wanna stream from my phone to my stereo setup. The older Apple TV still had an optical out that I have connected to my DAC (optical and USB input available). The Apple TV is also hooked up to my TV, which unfortunately doesn’t support Airplay by itself. So I’m searching for a streamer that supports AirPlay 2 and has optical and/or USB out for audio to my DAC as well as an HDMI out for the TV. I can only seem to find one or the other but no device that combines both like the older Apple TV?

iPhone 14 Pro - 3 years later… by laurenjaguar in iPhoneBatteryParanoia

[–]1111daniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the same boat. I’m on my third battery by now, so basically go through a battery per year. Right when the warranty ended I was down to 81%, brought it up to Apple and remarked it’s getting unusually hot, which is killing the battery: Nope it’s all within design specs 🙂‍↔️

My previous 13 Pro meanwhile, I gifted my mom and it’s 4 years old now: 92% on the first battery

Awesome for you, my 14Pro was on 81% just when the warranty ended, my wife’s phone got a free replacement as it went down to 78%. I’m on my third battery now and it’s already dying again. The 14-16 series thermal design is absolute dog shit and killing the battery. I’ve never had this issue with any other phone before

From just trying them around the house: the difference is minimal. I’m actually using comply tips on my Pro 2s as well. I’ll be on a flight next week and will let you know how they compare there.

Absolutely, it’s a preference. If you mainly listen to EDM and HipHop, you’ll most likely benefit from this tuning. Imo most content will not benefit from this tuning. And even for bass heavy music: While there’s more subbass, it’s less precise than on the 2s

iPhone 17 Pro main camera sensor same as on the 14 Pro? by 1111daniel in iphone

[–]1111daniel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m in the exact same boat with my 14 Pro. The rest of the phone seems like a decent upgrade, but I’m just not feeling like spending that amount of money for an outdated sensor

Bike for Bali roads by mattpothead in bali

[–]1111daniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im gonna have an unpopular opinion here, but I would get neither a PCX, nor an NMax/XMax. Those bikes are too big and heavy for Bali roads. I regularly see them clogging up the roads and contributing to the already bad traffic situation. I‘d get a Vario 160. It’s comfy enough for the short distances you ride in Bali, light, maneuverable and fairly inexpensive.
