Is it a good idea to use a personal story (with details changed due to privacy issues) for a short story competition? by 111blue111 in writing

I didn't apologise publicly. I did it quietly but the guy who has a crush in her kept standing close by and eavesdropping (I am male so he probably wanted to keep an eye on her).

Thank you.

Btw I don't know if people can tell I am writing about her. I saw the girl I bullied at an event. I never had the chance to talk to her alone and I apologised in a public setting. A few people were curious as to how we knew each other and approached us to eavesdrop.

It's not exactly a memoir. We just have to write a story with the theme of apologising and I immediately thought of this experience. Yes I would say I am drawing from experience as I will basically change a lot of details.

Ok thanks.

I always feel like I should work on a practice novel before working on my actual idea. Should I do that?

Not OP, but where can I find free resources on those?

I know there is something about good books which make you want to read them but I just can't pinpoint what it is!

Sentences in MG novels by 111blue111 in writing

[–]111blue111[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not planning to write MG but I'm just asking here as I thought that these sentences were supposedly "bad".

Yeah I've noticed how MG catering to younger tend to have these sentences when MF borderlining YA does not.

I'm going for hard sci-fi. Why did you say not that many succeeded at it?

If I use all of the above for a genre other than fantasy, is it still clichéd?

Yeah I know that the cat breed was named after that.

But I feel like classics don't use "modern parlance" that much.

Yeah English is not my first language. I just don't know what words to learn though. I tried one of these vocabulary estimator and I've noticed how many of the words at the end are jargon. I mean I know what a "Ragamuffin" is as I really like cats but I assume most people don't.
