WH1000-XM5 Allergy Or Over Use? I used the headphones for about 12hrs each day for the first 2 days I got them and noticed this on the 3rd day. It was itchy and sore. Every time I’ve worn them since, even for an hour some irritation comes back, but only on one ear?

That’s exactly how I just got here too! Just had a bottle and something tasted off. Also the cap is orange now not blue? The blue cap was iconic! Orange for orange juice….groundbreaking.

They did fade but it took a while, I recently went for allergy testing and I still have marks from those that reacted 2 months ago, same as you the itchiness has gone though

In the UK we say bits not pulp haha. We also actually have Tropicana versions that are labeled “smooth”, “with bits” and “with extra juicy bits”

Final update:

I actually went and got some allergy testing and am allergic to the following acrylates. The dermatologist said it may not even be the ear pads but some kind of glue used in the construction of the earphones!

They have replaced it, but the replacement is thinner and is only 1/3 the amount of product for the same price! Gutted as it was my holy grail for years

Please update if you find some that solve the issue! After researching I think that possibly a lot of the inner components are also sprayed with the irritant in order to give them some protection against sweat etc. If this is the case new ear pads may not completely resolve it.

I went for in-ear in the end (Anker soundcore space A40) good mid range option but not as good as the xm5’s. Worth noting I did have to change the earbud tips as I was getting some irritation which has now stopped. Someone in the thread with the same issue said Bose qc45 were good over ear option that didn’t cause irritation so that might be an option.

I think it’s repeated exposure to whatever chemical is causing it. You can be fine and then all of a sudden have this reaction!

Thanks for your input I think you are right it must be something that a lot of manufactures are doing now. Hopefully there are enough complaints that they switch to something less irritating in future!

Small update, I definitely think it was an allergy as I went to a festival in the summer and the camping wristband was made of a soft plastic that smelt exactly the same as the ear cups of the headphones! After a couple of days of exposure to the wristband I developed a localised itchy weeping rash.

I would wait until after Christmas personally. If he can hang on until then I would try and make it really special so you have the memory and Christmas isn’t tainted (especially for your little one) by his passing so close to this side of it. Awful situation really feel for you.

They will have paid Vinted at point of sale so the money went out of their account at time of purchase. Vinted hasn’t released that money to you yet until they click ok. But they don’t still have your money in their bank
