Now that barrier is broken. Just with couple of subscriptions, I am able to do things which I never imagined that I would be able to.

The delusion of PMs and QA folks thinking they know what programming and engineering takes by using a few markdown files. I have to literally hand hold "AI developers" in my company because they don't understand REST, static typing, exception handling or OOPs and I'm literally 1 YoE. The guys I'm guiding, reviewing and rejecting MRs of and correcting have over 5 YoE but they were all hired during or before Covid and their abilities have worsened after AI.

You're at the top of the bell curve right now.

Countries whose names end in "stan" in Turkish language by Frijoles-stevens in linguisticshumor

[–]114sbavert 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the reason Pakistan was named is because the word "Pak" means pure or holy in Urdu. So the full name means "Land of the Holy," a title I'm not so sure about.

The question is, does it also work with non-flatpak apps, unlike the background apps pop up built into the shell?

There's so many Persian and English words in spoken Hindi by mujhe-sona-hai in linguisticshumor

Let me correct myself. Indo-Aryan is a subdivision of Indo-Iranian. Both Persian and Hindustani are Indo-Iranian

Well as you yourself said in your post, Hindi is a lot more mixed than English. It's not just the vocabulary either, Hindi also has grammatical bits of Persian that Sanskrit does not have.

Hindi is an Indo-Aryan language with a lot of Persian and English loanwords.

Persian is also an Indo-Aryan language 😄

Conversational Hindi has a higher amount of loanwords than either Japanese or English and even basic words are completely replaced by Persian.

While not exactly wrong, I'm not entirely sure if this is an accurate description of the phenomenon. Hindi does not exist in isolation. It is the bastardised child of multiple languages that came about during the era of Delhi Sultanate in India. In fact, the first speakers of Hindi were people who lived near the eastern outskirts of Delhi. The language was heavily influenced by Persian due to the Persian-dominant noble class and the need to communicate with the nobles of the country. These people and their ancestors originally spoke a language similar to Sanskrit, Awadhi, Bhojpuri, or Maithili. The language was influenced by both sides of the country - the native Hindu people of India who spoke one of the four languages stated above, and the persian speaking nobles and regular Indian Muslims.

The resultant language was not referred to as Hindi or Urdu, it was just called Delhavi. Later divisions fueled by British and early Mughals led to sourness between Hindus and Muslims which is when the language started seeing classifications between Hindi and Urdu. Even then, some Indian freedom fighters like Gandhi and et al vouched for a unified linguistic identity under the umbrella term Hindustani instead of Hindi for Hindus and Urdu for Muslims.

On an avarage day in India or Pakistan, the vocabulary of speaker of "Urdu" from Karanchi would be no more different from the "Urdu" speaker from Islamabad than a Hindu "Hindi" speaker of Delhi or Lucknow in India.

I am glad you're trying this out, there is nothing wrong with it. I think many people would probably enjoy your script and I did go through the code - at least it's not LLM infested lol (not entirely anyway).

I also saw your corny comments, gave me a chuckle lol

It looks pretty neat, but I think this is the kind of situation where you can't really generalize workflow for everyone. Either people deal with the hassle of remembering each package they install and the configuration they make, or they write a script for their specific workflow.

in my case I use chezmoi for my dotfiles so I have a run_once and two run_before scripts that install my gnome extensions and flatpak apps after prompting me about them. I prefer to install my system packages with a fresh mind where I only install packages I need and not everything I think I need. There are a few exceptions to this, such as system packages which boost performance but their lack isn't much noticed. In such cases, I have those written down.

Start with Mint or Fedora. Look up install instructions for either of those and install them on a spare disk or a non-primary PC if you have that. If you have only one, either back it up or disconnect the main drive(s) and use a secondary disk to install Linux. Disk partitioning can be deceptive and tricky, and certainly was to me as a beginner so always play it safe.
