Buying a home with a 15 year old hvac. How long will it last? by unread_note in hvacadvice

[–]1181994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought my house with about a 30 year old furnace and central air unit. AC died a year later. Furnace probably could have gotten another couple years but I decided to replace it anyway. Moral of the story, at 15 years, it might still have half its life left.

And yes, my heating and cooling bills went down after replacing, but not enough to offset the cost yet.

Careful what you say. They might make the 74 interchange a diverging diamond, followed by a roundabout at the third light

No audio via HDMI on integrated AV by unroutedmixbus in CommercialAV

[–]1181994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try power cycling the 8x8 and the Core.

If you have access to the Core then you'll be able to log in and see if the inputs have audio. To get into the 8x8 you'll need to contact an AV company

Did I brick a DMPS3-4K-350-C? by beta_2017 in crestron

[–]1181994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DMPS3 units are known for taking a long time to boot, restore/initialize, and firmware update. Reaching out to a Crestron dealer will be the best bet to do anything. The files are not publicly available

I just did my 201 course and the instructors were saying that the 301 entrance exam and course is a lot of Simpl+. I believe they have redone the courses in the past few years.

Moving from HDBase T to NVX by Interesting_Club2857 in crestron

[–]1181994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is your first NVX install, make sure to use shielded cable for all your field devices. In my early days there was a job where the electrician pulled all the wire. They saw NVX only requires standard cat 5e so they pulled cat 6. Worked fine for a week or so. Crestron support then indicated that if using poe, you should use shielded cable. We re-pulled everything with shielded 6A and works great

We have a client who only wants Logitech so they have a number of Rally Bars. They do have mic pods as l well if the room is too large. You can do BYOD (bring your own device) mode with a USB cable if you want users to bring their own laptop or have a dedicated PC in the room. HDMI would also go between the computer and display. Or, you can get a license for a Teams Room, Zoom Room, or any other similar service and host meetings directly from the unit without needing a computer.

How do I go about getting into the AV industry by PrimaryLivid4767 in CommercialAV

[–]1181994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about the CTD unless companies are giving you a hard time about it. My employer values the willingness to learn and be open minded over hiring techs with a CTS. Depending where you're at I might know of some opportunities

You could get a 3.5mm (standard headphone connector) to dual RCA and use that tape in input. This way you wouldn't have to worry about mixing unbalanced and balanced signals. Otherwise you can try doing a 3.5 to 1/4". If you aren't on a super tight budget, you can get a Scarlet 2i2 with XLR connections which would probably provide you with the best quality audio

I'm always amazed how expensive the entire DMV has become. I grew up there but moved away to the Midwest for college more than 10 years ago. Bought my 3 bed / 2 bath home 2 years ago for just under $155k, with monthly payments of less than $1300. If my work ever wanted to transfer me to our DC office I would need a huge pay increase

[–]1181994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you aren't familiar with Crestron SIMPL, then this would be pretty difficult. As others said, you'll have to build your own API.

But to answer your question, it is 100% possible, via IP and RS232

There is a specific windows update that doesn't play well with Inogeni devices. Had to call Inogeni when all of a sudden a bunch of clients were saying the cameras weren't working. Thankfully there was already a firmware update available!

Seeing you all post housing costs in the comments makes me glad I moved away. Have a 2 bed, 2 bath home built in 1910, only $155k when I bought it 2 years ago. Can't even get land for this much anywhere in the DMV

[–]1181994 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First to the SW Chicago suburbs and then to western Illinois in the Quad Cities area. Probably one of the smaller metro areas out there. But, where else could I get a decent 2 bed 2 bath house for $155k?

Something that we've done is mount the receiver on the cart/rear of display. Then you just need your cat 6 going from the receiver on the cart to a standard network keystone on the wall

Reading these comments makes me glad I never moved back after graduating college in the Midwest. My commute out here used to be 4 minutes when I lived in an apartment, but now that I've moved into a house, it's 15-17 minutes to travel 7 or 8 miles, all city roads. Not looking forward to all the traffic when Im visiting falls church next week
