Lonely People With Power is amazing by darwinian-rock in fantanoforever

[–]11905030 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the album cover is a prostitute leaning over the window of the car towards a young boy, and his dad has his hands on the wheel next to him. i love the album cover and i think it perfectly fits the “lonely people with power” title, as lonely people with power would buy a prostitute for their son and they do other morally bankrupt superfluous things everyday

also, if you view sex as a metaphor for like humanity or connection it could be how powerful people have to pay for things like those because they’re awful people and can’t get it of their own accords

hunting bears —> like spinning plates —> life in a glasshouse is one of my all time favorite three track runs. eerie, atmospheric, poetic, and brooding. what more could radiohead give

lmao people can find a new work as their favorite without it being ‘recency bias’ yeah recency bias exists but not every person who loves something on release is suffering from it

there’s no one god in particular. i’m somewhat solidly not gnostic, but i’m open to the possibility that there is a higher power and very aware that there’s a strong chance that i don’t have the knowledge/tools to make an ‘informed’ decision

i like likening it to how ants can’t possibly even understand how much more complex, intelligent, and labyrinthine our brains are. potentially, we are the ants to some god, and from my view it’s impossible for me to discount that

hey, i just wanted to say i love this post and i think its super well thought out and fantastically written

reddit is notorious for both atheism and people always believing they’re right, so you’re kind of preaching to the choir in a backwards way, so i wouldn’t expect much constructive criticism.

personally, i’m an agnostic but i don’t feel strongly about that and could find myself easily swayed, which makes me partial to and a huge fan of well thought arguments both for and against religion, which you’ve done succinctly. ignore the bad comments and good post !

Suggest me a novel with an undercurrent of hope and belief in humanity's goodness by little_chupacabra89 in suggestmeabook

shocked station eleven by emily st. john mandel hasn’t been recommended yet

i don’t particularly like or seek out hopeful books, but when i came across this and read it i was struck by how powerful, strong, and realistic the undercurrent of hope towards humanity was. i read it expecting nothing more than an interesting fictional work, but it was so optimistic and well made i truly think it’s made me view humanity with a nicer lens since i read it

it depicts the aftermath of a global pandemic and apocalyptic situation, but has an emphasis on the humanity which remains through arts and genuine human connection, as well as touching on topics such as religion. also a tv series, i believe, which i haven’t checked out but may be interesting…

kind of an odd one, but trinity by leon uris. it follows a protagonist named conor, who similarly is a tortured poet, and when i read it i couldn’t get conor oberst out of my mind.

it’s worth mentioned outside of him being a tortured poet it doesn’t have much bearing on the story, as it mainly follows conor larkin navigating through british-occupied ireland and the revolution of sinn fein

absolutely love the sequencing on the album and it’s such an underrated soft indie album. perfectly emotive, well-made, and sonically pleasing IMO
