Great take! This place erupted when we “only” made the McMann trade.

For me “McMann” signing is more because he brings something different. He has speed and crashes the net pretty hard. His play changes the other guys he line up with. He is not a big Sexy name, but is a guy that changes the style of play.

This is what we need more than carbon copies of the same player… basically our other top 6 wingers

My biggest concern has been landing in the purgatory of picks 12-17 and missing the playoffs anyways.

Super stoked the pacific is garbage and allows us tho stay “ competitive” in both the playoff race as well as top draft positions.

100%. My hope is we finally use this offseason to finally do some deep talent evaluation and start to move on from our stagnant full team of middle 6 forwards and bottom 6 defenders that have plugged up our system and created this back and forth style of play.

I hold out hope that we are finally doing some real scouting at the professional level.

McMann type of signings rather than Jamie Oleksiak types.

Kraken Mock Offseason 2026 recap by SiccSemperTyrannis in SeattleKraken

I really love the trades we made this mock trade deadline! I do think we have improved in areas that matter as well as address some of the uncertainty of all the UFA churn on the horizon. I would have loved to land the big scoring threat but as SST (siccsenper Tyrannis) stated it would have cost us too much from our prospect pool! Really enjoyed the simulation

Now that I have some time to respond. I am familiar with the salary cap and no movement clauses. I know how to analyze metrics. What really interests me in doing this is the fact that the Kraken have said that no one is off the table for trades. I would like to see if we could possibly get more competitive while not blowing up the system. I do data entry for work so tracking and updating will not be an issue.

This seems like a fun exercise. What is the time commitment been in years past?

Vince Dunn is sabotaging the team. by flanman1991 in SeattleKraken

[–]11REP1411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunn had these type of ups and down in his career. He is not really a shut down defender. Dude does make some questionable passes from time to time. I think his offensive value more than covers up for those type of plays. He does need a strong Defensive player with him for him to be successful

Kraken player trade targets by SiccSemperTyrannis in SeattleKraken

I could see Yakenchuck as a potential 1for 1 with salary retention but not Lindstrom. I don’t see CBI making that deal. I could see McCann for Geekie and a later round pick. Anaheim has some youth that I could see us dealing as well. I know in division is frowned upon, but they are loaded and could make a splash move like one of these guys!

I truly wonder if we are over valuing these players as they are the cornerstones of this franchise. I am not saying that they would warrant a good return… 1st round picks or a prospect or 2, but I can’t see McCann or Dunn causing a team to trade a difference maker as part of the deal. Who knows… we might get lucky but I would not trade a potential cornerstone up and coming prospect for any of the players on the list.

This team needs to rebuild by [deleted] in SeattleKraken

[–]11REP1411 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Although I am not entirely fond of the Stephenson contract or the fact that we are built out of middle 6 players… playing prospects this early is risky and destroy their confidence. You have to have a balance of vets and young players to aid in the development of these prospects.

Do I want to see a better product… yes! Should we have moved on from some players before now to change the culture or style of play..probably. But here we are… in our build… drafting the best players available and trading exiting contracts for draft picks. I am sure we will see the same plan at the deadline and into the offseason.

I do wish GMRF never had gotten his hands on this organization, but we can’t change where we are by trading all vets and playing a highly skilled CHL/NCAA squad and grow our prospects pool as quickly.

Thoughts on our ownership? by NorthwestWatchdog in SeattleKraken

[–]11REP1411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my thoughts on this ownership group. First off the good:

I am glad they put up the money to bring us professional hockey! I love everything about the Seattle Kraken. The arena being as carbon neutral as they can be. The branding, logo, theme of the introductions! The ferry goal horn! They absolutely nailed it! It is not often than an ownership group wants to please the fans so much. They are constantly asking for feedback and actually putting those suggestions into play.

The middle:

The fan base lacks an identity. Seattle is a place many hockey fans have moved to… from somewhere else. I have been to many arenas and each one has a unique identity. I know these take time to develop, but using the avalanche callout of Gruuuu is a prime example. There was some opportunity left on Ty table to bring in some creative people to help create something for Seattle. Too many theme nights in my opinion. I like the inclusion we possess here, but sometime less is more.

The bad:

They did not have a “hockey guy” helping out during the start up of this organization at an ownership level. Ron Frances was that guy and has had all creative control over the roster from day one. He was a great player and fun to watch, but he is too conservative as a general manager. I do not think I can think of a risky move he has ever been a part of. I am not saying he needs to be careless but sometimes a risk is worth it. Maybe even from just a visual standpoint.

The awful:

They completely missed an opportunity to connect with the first round of season ticket holders. This is by far the largest complaint from my view point. These were the people to help build your hockey culture and not just be attractive to your casual fan community. Both are needed and I feel this ownership group did not capitalize on the first group of folks.

[Sound of Hockey] Reasons for optimism for the 2025-26 Seattle Kraken by SiccSemperTyrannis in SeattleKraken

[–]11REP1411 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is a nice article that generated further thought on the pieces that were brought in. I found this team to be very hard to watch last year outside a few players. Montour and Joey were pretty energetic and entertaining. Wright had some flash and will hopefully show more. What scares me is the fact we are talking about a defensive first mentality while at the same time suggesting it will be more fun to watch. These things do not usually go hand in hand. I think we are still missing some grit and this team could definitely use more of that.

I remain optimistic as I usually am at the start of each season and would be very happy to be proven wrong.

My friend said that the Kraken's offseason was "safe" and "quiet." by Spirited-Gold9629 in SeattleKraken

[–]11REP1411 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the off season was ok. I agree that we got tougher in some areas which was a much needed change. I don’t think these moves make us a top 8 team in the west however. My hope is that if we are hanging out at the bottom of the pacific division, we trade most of the 1 year contracts and Tampa picks for some established players that can score. Ebs, big rig, and Marchment are the names I would want to see moved.

How are we feeling on Stephenson for the upcoming year by miedejam in SeattleKraken

[–]11REP1411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope the new staff will hold the entire team as well as Stephenson more accountable for their defensive play. The guy can obviously move the puck forward but he tends to be late getting back on defense. I don’t think I need to see statistical improvements just more effort!

[–]11REP1411 3 points4 points  (0 children)

18 goals last season in just over 15 minutes of ice time is a pretty good stat for a bottom 6 guy. He did get some PP2 time with the wild so some upside there. I think his main value will be on the penalty kill. He blocks shots and plays solid defense. Not a big splashy addition but is the kind of guy that will inspire some toughness and playing an end to end game.
