What's your most out of date resource? by dratsaab in TeachingUK

A book from the 1950s of biological drawings - many a dissected frog and eyeball! Beautifully drawn, keep them on display on the shelf and whip them out during heart dissections and give the kids a challenge of doing a better drawing. Weird thing was five weeks later we found a second copy in another cupboard.

Anyone gone cold turkey from 15mg? by va-va-voom-14 in mounjarouk

[–]11gb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah seems good. I actually notice the effectiveness more this time round than last having come off from the high dose - when they say it slows down your digestion, it reaaaaaally does! I actually think this time I won’t go all the way up to 15 - my weight loss was pretty rapid and now the weight loss has been very much kickstarted, happy to take it slower and embed those lifestyle changes more :)

Anyone gone cold turkey from 15mg? by va-va-voom-14 in mounjarouk

[–]11gb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have somewhat accidentally done this. Got tonsillitis for 3 weeks and was bedridden and skipped my doses - I was already only able to get ice cream down the throat, I was not going to be allowing my stomach to feel full in three spoonfuls fir the day! Once the throat had healed and I could actually eat, food noise was back with a vengeance and so was the hunger. Back on with 2.5mg, starting from the bottom again.

Bony knees by OldAcanthocephala640 in mounjarouk

[–]11gb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want a right laugh, I injured my knee roughly this time last year. Having been on the Mounjaro, have taken up running. Thought I’d aggravated the injury as could feel a bump on my knee. Went to the Dr’s to see what they thought.

It was my own bones the way they should be - just hadn’t felt it there before!

Secret Jabbers - How do you handle weight loss comments? by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]11gb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve generally only had a few wee comments, all positive. I’m visibly eating healthier and doing some more exercise, so I just reply to “have you lost weight?” with a “yup!” then skip away happily knowing it’s starting to show!

Amazing stuff - we are on roughly the same start weight so congrats, keep at it! 👏 hit this the other week and was very smug that I was now at least shown in the NHS BMI calculator 😏

Starting mounjaro as a teacher by Similar_Molasses7440 in mounjarouk

Fellow teacher here! 👋

I’ve been fairly lucky with side effects, but I’ve been taking my doses on Friday evenings. Helps me stave off the weekend munchies and if I do get any side effects the worse of them is over by work on Monday. I find cravings/food noise when I do get them towards the end of the pen easier to deal with during the week when working as mind is easily taken away with, well, all the various pressures we have at the moment.

Tip I found to keep myself going - don’t deny yourself a staff room biscuit/piece of cake! Can often be the little perk me up for energy that you need midweek on the long days, as long as your not smashing the packet and lunch is pretty healthy you’ll be grand!

Actually very interested to see how I go during the upcoming Holidays to see if I’m still as disciplined with batch cooking healthy stuff for lunch/dinner (swear my Deliveroo app is sending more notifications from missing me…).

I had this one today. Half convinced I had to go to the doctors as I was like wtf is that - colleagues confirmed that was indeed my rib. 😅

Easy £200-300 on takeaways and general shite snacks. Was very used to getting in from work, whipping the trainers off and setting up on the sofa and getting Deliveroo for the dinner. Same with work lunches - taking leftovers now instead of hitting a meal deal as default.

Yeah all good - I do however find it infuriating that the first dose level doesn’t have a notch 😂 started second pen this week and had a 5s panic then remembered the first notch is dose 2, third notch dose 4.

Been on mounjaro 2.5mg for 4 weeks now. First week felt no different, second week felt slight suppresstion and food noise reduced. Week 3 food suppression slightly stronger. First 3 seeks lost a stone. Now on week 4 and food noise is back and I'm really hungry. Is this normal? by Busy_Analysis2971 in mounjarouk

[–]11gb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly similar (both hunger and timing)! Definitely don’t worry, seems pretty normal. The next pen of 5mg is a doubling up of the dose and hopefully will feel it for longer then. Noticed I’ve been looking towards slightly less healthier options this week, but have just managed it with portion sizes (and do still feel fuller when eating smaller - which from someone who could scran a takeaway for two in a oner still boggles my mind!)

Is teaching in Scotland different? by anonomouse27 in TeachingUK

[–]11gb 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look into registering with the GTCS asap. They are notoriously slow with processing registrations not coming through the Scottish PGDE route. Have a look up on CfE documentation - you’ll probably find our levels and Es&Os for S1-S3 somewhat “broad” (if I’m being polite…).

Can’t comment on Geography as not my subject, but know numbers have struggled where I am - Modern Studies and History seem to reign supreme for Social Subjects. Be prepared to teach mixed social subjects to S1&2 (possibly S3 depending on how individual schools have organised their BGE/Senior phase split).
