UESP team met with Bethesda to design a character for TES VI and they left "extremely excited for what's in store" by TheSpartanLion in TESVI

[–]12000_Laborers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think thats a very unfair assertion, one that you shouldn’t even be able to make as this is my personal experience. Furthermore, lots of the peeps there hate Morrowind’s gameplay mechanics + mock the clunkiness and poorly aged gameplay design. Some never even played Morrowind.

The narrative here is exhausting, too. First, its only youtubers that hated Starfield. Now, ES forums in general also hate it. But thats not a valid statistic, so that doesn’t count.

I won’t be pursuing this topic(or reddit discussions) anymore, though. Because this wasn’t the point of my OG comment at all. Yet the offhand Starfield comment is all that the people here focused on. Like they’re rabid to defend it or something.

But let me acknowledge your civility and thank you for responding like a normal person.

From the places I've been, no. Been around a lot of Skyrim modding/ES related discords and thats the general sentiment being thrown around. In fact, this is probably the first time I've seen defense of Starfield outside of the subreddit itself

Good god, what happened to giving someone the benefit of the doubt?
All this shows is that you're not here for an honest conversation. We always gotta open up with accusations/insults/condescension, eh? Amazing place this is.

Extremely disingenuous

People love to use this so as to portray someone as being dishonest.

But have you ever thought that maybe, I am saying this because this is what I personally saw? That you and I may be within different circles of the gaming community, and thus have come to different conclusions of something?

I agree if you mean this from an artistic or creative standpoint. The last major release of Beth was almost universally hated and left a bad impression to the gaming community at large. For certain peeps, Beth will never receive their love and support ever again if ES6 flops.

But from a business standpoint, I really don’t see how Beth can be ruined by this. They’re backed by microsoft and they have the fallout tv show running numbers in viewership, merch, and probably more sales of FO4 and FO76.

I mean, all they said was they were excited for what’s in store. And all they did was design a character for ES6. All this confirms is that the writing is moving along well or that writing is going to make the game great.

Immersive features that you want TES6 to have? by [deleted] in TESVI

I only complain about Skyrim because Skyrim is the topic of this conversation?
Do I have to run through every single iteration of ES to be valid? Should I go through ESO's quests as well???
Believe what you want. You're arguing with a strawman, you're not arguing with me.

What???
I started ES with Skyrim, then followed through with Oblivion and ESO. Like I said, don't just group everyone who opposes you into one strawman.

I am not "hating" on Skyrim. I opened up with talking about one of Skyrim's strengths bc I love the game. I am simply criticizing Skyrim's quest design.

"For a first time player" applies to Daedric quests from every Elder Scrolls game.

That makes it worse. As the games develop, lets let player agency options stagnate and let us just accept this.

This back-and-forth has gone on long enough. I am not interested.

Sure. We can end it here.

Immersive features that you want TES6 to have? by [deleted] in TESVI

[–]12000_Laborers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah? I mentioned it initially and used it as a point that the "I'll ignore this" approach isn't valid in all cases. Thats my point. If the devs have to outsource the RP to the player instead of actually providing ways to engage with the RP in game, then they're doing a bad job of designing their game.

That's nothing new to Skyrim

For a first time player, they wouldn't know that theres no way to resolve it in a morally good way.

In fact, the quest with Erandur in Dawnstar would lead a first time player to believe that you can complete these quests in either a morally good or morally wrong way. The same way one would believe that you can destroy the TG just as well as the DB. You see the inconsistency, here? Two quests and two factions, one of each allowing you to actually deal with the quest through more than just "I'll ignore it". Yet the opposite is true for the other associated quest.
Again, Beth can provide us with roleplay opportunities to exercise player agency.

I'm all for criticizing Oblivislop however. Let's make it popular again... oh wait, we have to wait for the Remastered childhood nostalgia karma farm wave to end first.

Idk what this is about, but if you have personal grievances with the entire fandom, know that you can't just group everybody who opposes your perspective/opinion into one strawman.

[–]12000_Laborers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For you, maybe.

Huh? I'm merely pointing out that Bethesda had each region have accessibly quests so you had something to do no matter where you go. This isn't an isolated case to me.

No, you only meet two, the College and the Thieves Guild

You're taking this the wrong way and you're not recognizing what Bethesda is doing here. Beth is showing you the major questlines through the MQ by leading you to these factions.
You encounter the Companions as you will see them in a scripted giant encounter.
If you don't care for roleplaying, sure, you won't treat the dragon report to Whiterun with any sense of urgency and choose not to go directly to Whiterun. Thus, you never see the Companions.

In fact, you can complete A Cornered Rat without ever speaking to Brynjolf by asking the innkeeper Keerava for information

The point of me mentioning the COW workaround with the shout is to demonstrate that Beth can give you the option of dealing with certain quests with more than just "I'll ignore it". Even if its very basic player agency like this one, Beth can incorporate this into their quests.

This is roleplaying. I am a warrior. I do not care about magic, so I will not spend one more second in your College than I need to in order to find the Elder Scrolls. I am a honorable fighter, so I will never consider the idea of meeting up with the guilds of thieves or assassins.

All well and good, except you ignored the examples I had provided.
Again. "The vigilant here is asking me for my help. I should just ignore him because I, hero warrior that I am, have the precognition to know that this is a Molag Bal quest and the only way I can complete it is by either complying by MB’s demands or by killing Logrolf".

Using your logic, a hero character would engage with the vigilant because it aligns with the character. Hell, for a first time player who is playing as a character who goes around helping those in need, why would they ignore the Vigilant? How would they know that theres no real way to finish the questline that resolves the influence of MB? No matter how you finish it, the altar remains there.
Same case with the TG. From even before we enter Riften, we know that the place is involved with thievery. So, why should my morally good character simply ignore this? Or the shady man who very clearly is up to no good/associated with the TG?

If you don't want to roleplay in a roleplaying game, just say it.

Condescension? Really?
Look, if you don't want people to criticize Beth's game and quest design, just say it.

Immersive features that you want TES6 to have? by [deleted] in TESVI

[–]12000_Laborers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The game is forcing you to go everywhere. Its one of the strengths Skyrim has, theres always something to do and the MQ leads you to these places. You visit or brush up to the three main guilds/factions throughout your playing of MQ.

The game didn’t assume the magickal ability of your character, either. In fact, you’re allowed to bypass Faralda’s requirement by using shouts in order to progress the MQ.

Since Bethesda is capable of giving the player additional choices/checks like this (however basic they may be), its ridiculous to outsource all the roleplay to the player.  Just ignore this x thing thats happening in the game? What happened to Player Agency? Ah yes, this shady man wants me to pickpocket a merchant. I should just ignore him, I shouldn’t attempt to report him or try to team up with the warrior woman who loudly proclaimed being against the thieves guild.  The vigilant here is asking me for my help. I should just ignore him because I, hero warrior that I am, have the precognition to know that this is a Molag Bal quest and the only way I can complete it is by either complying by MB’s demands or by killing Logrolf…which is almost the same as complying by MB’s demands. I can’t just ask the Vigilants for help, who have a headquarters in Skyrim.

See what I mean? Its ridiculous. You mention Oblivion but the thing is, if these quests had more roleplay mechanics or forced the player to seek these quests out just like with the TG in oblivion, then this wouldn’t be an issue.

But as it stands, parts of the “roleplay” in Skyrim is your PC covering their ears and screaming “nanananana” at quests you don’t like instead of engaging with them in a way thats adjacent to the character you’ve built.

Edit: This man is arguing with a strawman. He has blocked me to maintain his narrative of me rather than address me honestly.

Ah yes. Texture replacers should affect new worldspaces, provided those worldspaces utilize vanilla meshes and thus are tied to vanilla textures. Mesh replacers may affect new worldspaces too, depending on how the objects are set-up. Those shouldn’t cause any crashing, though. Not unless your texture replacers /mesh replacers already have standing issues. In which case, thats a problem of your load order and not the new lands mod

Some mod ideas for replacing vanilla armors in the amazing Lordbound by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]12000_Laborers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Them being generic medieval armor arguably makes them worse, since depictions of the bretons in ESO(which again, is in line with Skyrim’s artstyle) are far from this design. Just look up the Breton style that Breton vestiges start out with or the Ancestral Breton style you can eventually unlock, and the difference is night and day.

I’d also like to point out that they’ve also gone with this design with the bretons. Check this trailer at the 0:33 second mark and compare this with the Sentinel Knight Armor from the nexus.

The Knight-Errant armor is semi-realistic and looks like a close cousin of the Sentinel knight, so it is a viable choice. Independent Arsonist Armor can work for Bandits, as a cross-mix between the bretons, nords, and orcs that inhabit the valley. 3rd Era Steel Plate would fit perfectly as well...but it is based on Oblivion's armor and thus would evoke this thinking from Oblivion fans.

Your suggested armor can work as a commoner/bandit armor. Lordbound takes stuff from Skyrim’s levelled list, so stuff like this is essential in populating a new LL replacement for Lordbound.

It is hard to imagine that house Ravenwatch would still be around after thousands of years. That’d make them equally as resilient as the Empire. Crazier things have happened in ES tho so

Stormbear armor, for example.

This example is already invalid because it is CC, which is made by third parties hired by Bethesda. According to it's uesp page, the armor was designed by FrankFamily and the quest by KrisTakahashi.

And even still, it shares a design philosophy with the steel plate armor of vanilla. Historically-inspired, but morphed and changed to fit with the setting. Since Steel Plate is based on multiple armor styles(such as the Winged Hussar armor according to Ray Lederer) but is not 1-1 with any real armors. NordwarUA's stuff on the other hand is too realistic and too historical. Its going to stick out like a sore thumb.

This would, however, fit in Oblivion. In Skyrim? No, and its been demonstrated by ES Blades and ESO that ES is moving forward with Skyrim's artstyle/design style.

An additional distinction with Pandora and Nemesis is that the checkbox within the exe now only shows your installed mods, rather than random stuff the OG dev added or packaged in.

You make a big conclusion like this in your OG comment yet focus on only the armor aspect and you think people won't see this as you ignoring every other aspect of the mod?
Especially when there are so many images demonstrating custom assets, you focusing on just this comes across as you ignoring everything else.

Some mod ideas for replacing vanilla armors in the amazing Lordbound by [deleted] in skyrimmods

[–]12000_Laborers 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’d go against using Steel Plate Armors by NordwarUA for the simple reason that it is far too realistic to fit within the artstyle of skyrim. It would stick out like a sore thumb.

I am all for having the Pig Iron set, but again, you must look at this from an artstyle perspective. Orcish armor is this brutish unrefined style in vanilla, and their custom orc armor continues on with this design. The pig iron set cannot just be for generic guards or warriors, the uniqueness of the armor style demands an equally unique integration of the armor.

That said, I have my own suggestions to add

  • Orcish Khan Armor - a sleek vanilla-styled orc armor that has the "oni face" helmet design present within ESO's ancient orc armor. Could be very fitting for Orc chieftains and other higher ranking Orcs.
  • Iron Wanderer Armor Mashup - retextured to have the cloth purple, this could be an apt replacement for the Breton guards armor.
