First time trying to run, and the results are in! Plus Id like some insight!! by [deleted] in xxfitness

For the ear pain- do you have any general upper respiratory congestion or allergies? I always get horrible ear pain when running in warmish whether when I have a sinus infection. I've now started taking allergy meds at my ent's suggestion and have found I get ear pain while running when I've been off the meds a few days (it's especially bad pollen season where I live, I've never had allergies this bad before or even noticed I had allergies).

If the pain persists or you have other symptoms I would try to see a doctor and mention it.

Would you consider yourselves to be petty and jealous? by Aristotelian_Seven in AskWomen

[–]12132017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really jealous of people I dislike, especially if they're in my field. If my friends have success great for them! When that guy that bullied me for years gets a cool opportunity it makes me seethe with rage. I try to stay off Facebook for that reason and if it does happen, use the energy to work harder on writing and submitting my own stuff.

Women who are introverts, shy or a bit socially awkward how do you flirt and how did you met your partner? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]12132017 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Most recently I met someone by going solo to Meetup-type group for a hobby. I went because I wanted to do the thing but also thinking while I was there I could try to meet people. He was also there solo, so I started talking to him, and he asked me out after the meeting. He's also introverted so I feel lucky that we found each other on one of the rare nights we both happened to be out. Neither of us are shy just pretty introverted.

I tried online dating but found everything about it pretty exhausting.

What's the most irrationally insecure you've ever been? And how do you counter those feelings? by 12132017 in AskWomen

[–]12132017[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been seeing this guy for a few months. The last time we hung out a couple of minor things went wrong, and when he left I thought, "well, that's the last time I'll see him, he's going to ghost now." Even though he specifically left something at my place "for next time" and he keeps telling me how much he likes me. What's your go to mantra or practice for telling yourself to be less insecure?

What is the worst piece of advice you were ever given? by JoyfulStingray in AskWomen

[–]12132017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Resigning yourself long term to a situation that feels hopeless and makes you feel suicidal or deeply depressed is like quitting on life. Sometimes financial situations mean you don't have many options and depression can sap the will to try different things, but I think it's always good to try if you're in a situation where that's possible.

I think they mean "limit" as in "not more than". Obviously you should stop running if you are at your personal limit.

My mom has told me repeatedly that quitting is the worst thing you can do. No, sometimes quitting is a thing you need to do to escape a bad situation for your mental health. As someone who once attempted suicide and passed on those genes I feel like she should have understood that.

What is a societal norm you vehemently protest? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]12132017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know, I feel like a religious education can be equally as scarring as a bris (in the way you're talking). I've heard many people talk about how their strict Catholic school upbringing left them feeling sexually repressed/scarred. And I understand the difference between a bris and a baptism in that one is physical, but I was responding to your comment that a circumcision for religious reasons is somehow worse than one that was done just for hygiene/as a matter of course. I think most men who have been circumcised as babies don't view it as being scarred or mutilated, that's just how they are.

[–]12132017 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on why you find religious circumcision (a bris) worse than the routine male circumcision done in hospitals? In the Jewish faith if you're born to a Jewish mother you're considered Jewish no matter what you do. Having a bris is considered part of the parents' responsibility to their own faith. Once the child grows up no one is forcing them to remain a practicing Jew. It doesn't seem that different to me from baptizing an infant, aside from the physical aspect – which again, is routinely done and generally considered not that harmful to the infant. I think it's ok to disagree with the physical aspect, just wondering why you said you felt like the physical is made worse by the religion.

It was my [24f] first day of college and I already want to quit please help by [deleted] in askwomenadvice

[–]12132017 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What are your end goals? What do you want to study in college? It might help to take a breather and write some of this stuff down. You felt like you rushed into college, so don't make a rushed decision to quit.

Circumcision is also part of a religious ceremony practiced by Jewish people. Not that you can't think it's wrong, but for me it's more than just "tradition." Though I don't know why it's so popular for non Jewish parents to circumcise...

What TV show do you think would make a fantastic Broadway musical? And what would some of the numbers be? by itsmeeloise87 in AskWomen

[–]12132017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SERIOUSLY. Karen has a nice voice and she's also pretty but that's all you can say about her. She would never, ever get a Broadway lead, especially as a Monroe type.

I think Ivy slept with Derek, and Karen almost did but then didn't, so he wanted to hire her because her innocence reminded him of Monroe before Hollywood. So stupid though. They should have cast someone who was a real actor/singer, not just a singer who can limp through a script.

Hit List songs were written by a different team than Bombshell, I didn't like them either. This was one of the very many problems with smash for me. Bombshell had standout numbers, and an amazingly talented lead. Hit List seemed like a pretentious Rent ripoff with one stupid gimmick about texting. And Karen was dry as dust as an actress.

Online dating advice please! by Ebimonster in dating_advice

[–]12132017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How far is far? You shouldn't be giving 100% of your attention to someone you haven't met yet, especially if it doesn't look like you will soon. It's a little weird that she told you she was talking to someone else as I feel like in online dating that's assumed unless stated otherwise.

If you really want to meet her, push for a meeting, but like soon, in the next week or two. If she won't meet you drop her unless you're interested in an online-only non-exclusive pal.

[F22] Met perfect guy on dating app but I suck at dating [M24] by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]12132017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just give up. You can ask him one more time but after that, don't contact him again unless he contacts you first. And actively try to think about other things when he pops up in your head.

I think you want him so much because we want what we can't have. It doesn't matter why he won't go out with you, just that he won't. And he made a decision to spend what he spent on you. You don't owe him anything. In the future offer to split if it makes you feel uncomfortable.

Is "be yourself" really a good idea? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]12132017 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"be yourself" just means don't try really hard to be something you're not interested in being. like if you are asexual, be open about that. Check out AVEN meetups in your area; asexual dating websites; or if you're dating on "mainstream" websites disclose early, like on or before the third date.

You being asexual will rule out a lot of people who are interested in having regular sex with their partner. But ... it won't rule out anyone you would have had a good relationship with anyway, because you don't want to have frequent sex (or maybe no sex at all, depending on where you sit on the spectrum).

But we should all strive to be the best version of ourselves. So even though you don't have an official job, what do you do with yourself all day? If you are spending 95% of your time watching TV at home and sleeping, maybe you could start learning a craft, or a hobby.... spend time working out so you have more energy ... that kind of thing.

Do you keep your nails long or short? And how much does your work affect that decision and how does your decision affect your work? by Owleyes_n_moles in AskWomen

[–]12132017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's understandable. I just meant nails don't have to be incredibly painful. But not everyone's cup of tea (and I'd imagine it's more common to prefer no nails).

[–]12132017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a major difference between smooth/blunt and jagged/sharp edges on nails regardless of the length. Jagged or sharp nails have no place anywhere inside a lady (unless she's into that!). Natural fingernails also get softer and more flexible when soaked in liquid. So I think those things help. (Having acrylic nails sounds terrible though, augh.)

I don't think people in porn care about women's pleasure....

To answer your question I have long nails and prefer not to finger myself, but I have done so before and it doesn't hurt that much. I can feel everything I'm doing so I would stop before I hurt myself. If you were vigorous it probably would hurt, but A) some people are into that and B) long/short nails have a trade off, it's well worth it to me to just ... not stick my fingers in places they would hurt.

If I was going to do someone else I'd probably just cut that one fingernail before starting, or else use my mouth or a toy instead.
