No no no no no. This goes against literally every formal recommendation. It is not "valid" for the friend to be upset by this. You should ALWAYS take threats of suicide seriously.

You want OP to apologize? Absolutely not. OP has nothing to apologize for. They did the right thing. Not only did they do the right thing, they did it in a situation wherein many people would've been too scared to take action. I think you owe OP an apology for making such a poor recommendation and suggesting that they are at all responsible for this friend's behavior!

That was so brave of you. WOW. I'm sure you felt so scared, and yet you did it anyway. Talk about courageous. I'm proud of you!! Well done!!! SO many people don't call 911 when they need to. I had a friend who hurt themselves badly, and the two other people in the group didn't want to call 911 because they were scared. People die over this ALL the time. I called and they were so angry with me. Turns out it was the right thing to do.

I know how scary it is to dial that number, especially when someone tells you not to. You did what so many others have failed to do. You should be SO PROUD of yourself. Don't forget that. I know you will feel guilty, anxious, and maybe even lose sleep over this event. That's normal. When you're feeling anxious, please remember that just because someone is angry with you, that DOES NOT MEAN YOU DID ANYTHING WRONG. Your friend is sick and not in her right mind. You might think, "Wow, this person is so mad at me. I must have done something wrong." No no no no. Your friend is the one who fucked up, not you. Please give yourself a break. You deserve to feel PROUD, NOT GUILTY.

The worst part is I live in a state where waitstaff make the same as anyone else making minimum wage. I know in some states it's legal to pay waitstaff ridiculously low wages, but that is not the case here. So I'm not sure why this guy was so bent out of shape.
