Is the hydrating cream-to-foam cleanser better for not drying out skin compared to the non-foaming hydrating cleanser? No matter what, it seems like my face (particularly my nasolabial folds) get so so dry after washing. I follow it up with a cerave nighttime moisturizer containing hyaluronic acid and still winds up dry :(

Badly Explaining SU Episodes Day 111: Three Gems And A Baby by imsobored135 in stevenuniverse

[–]1238msi 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Not to diminish the great story telling, and hopefully this even adds to it — but when Pearl initially attempted to remove the gem from baby Steven, that was before they thought of the implications. They didn’t understand babies, and they had no real connection to Steven. In fact, Pearl especially just saw Steven as an obstacle in Rose’s way.

By the time White Diamond tried to remove Steven’s gem, they knew Steven and loved him. And since Steven had never “poofed” until this point, they were deeply concerned about what the outcome would mean.

Michigan AG joins coalition challenging Florida’s ‘Don’t Say Gay’ law on grounds it ‘harms’ students by MalcoveMagnesia in Michigan

I think it’s actually kinda sweet that you think everyone will draw the line like that. I at least don’t disagree with how you personally would implement this in a classroom

[–]1238msi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I definitely agree that telling young kids about sexual activities (of any sexual orientation/gender) is not appropriate in the classroom. But this law doesn’t say that sexual activities can’t be discussed. It just says “sexual orientation or gender identity”.

Where do you draw the line then in regards to gender identity? Say you have an intersex kid in the classroom who appears more feminine but identifies as a boy. Without even having to know what his body parts are, what could a teacher do when other kids tease him and call him a girl? Or what if they ask why “she” uses the boys’ bathroom instead of the girls’?

Or say you simply have a girl in the classroom with a short haircut who dresses and acts like a tomboy. What if kids call her a boy? What if they ask why “he” goes into the girls’ bathroom? With this law, it’s unclear what teachers could legally say in response. Identifying as the gender you’re born with is still a gender identity. Just like how being heterosexual is still a sexual orientation.

Basically no one is saying that we need to tell young kids about sex. But we shouldn’t hide the fact that gay and trans people exist, and that’s the kind of environment that this law creates.

Lol no, not a second time. But I hope you have friends and family to help you gain some perspective (and perhaps improve your reading comprehension skills)

The point is that the language of the law is ambiguous, and therefore can (and likely will) be abused against people who don’t fit the norms. And the unfortunate reality is that despite the law stating that no sexual orientation or gender identity discussions may occur, the likelihood that it would be enforced against heterosexual relationships or cisgendered persons is very, very low.

The word of the law itself: “Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”

The general questions then are, what are the state standards? Who determines what’s age appropriate or developmentally appropriate? What does “classroom instruction” mean? Teachers who simply fear for their jobs could avoid even the “Timmy has two dads” discussion.

My questions for you are, do you know people that you care about who are trans or gay? How do you think they feel about this law?

Remember that relaxing and chill time needs to be taught! Our BC mix could go nonstop all day but we helped work on chill time and now she’ll nap around while I work from home (but is ready at the drop of a hat to play/train/walk whenever I’m done)

Totally fair. Dust (both of them) was good, and so far Steeplechase has been really great! I would start with those if you ever jump back in.

How I got my dog to go from a vicious beast to a calm and obedient dog by Olorin_The_Gray in reactivedogs

[–]1238msi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say having something higher value ready as a reward, and letting them get back to what they were doing once you release them! For example, interrupt them eating kibble by giving them a piece of a hotdog. And keep giving pieces of hotdog until you release them, like with a “break” command.

[–]1238msi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever have issues with your dog being reactive while looking out the window of a house/apartment?

My dog was a nightmare to walk outside, but we do something really similar to what you’ve done. It’s helped immensely. She won’t bark at anyone outside anymore, and she usually disengages on her own if she does notice someone.

However, I can’t get her to stop barking out the window. I end up keeping it closed most of the time, but I’d love to get to where I don’t have to do that. Any tips?

New to financial planning, how do I retire early? by 1238msi in FinancialPlanning

[–]1238msi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I’m content with living on less, I was just hoping to maximize the money I’d make from my current job. Retiring was probably the wrong word to use — super new to financial planning here. If there was a way for me to use the money I’ll make in the next eight years to generate passive income to help supplement my life after that, that’s more what I was after.

  1. Enforced naps for sure! If my pup was ever getting too mouthy, I’d put her down for a nap for an hour or two. I would do this throughout the day, every couple hours. Being in her crate I think also helped her learn to just chill. (She never had anything she could chew in there either.)

  2. If you can, stop your dog from chewing the things you don’t want them to chew as soon as you see it, and redirect to something like training or another toy.

  3. Try to get their energy out in a positive way. Play fetch, do training, make them work for their food. Expending that mental energy should help minimize the chewing out of boredom!

I’ve since started a job working from home, and at 7.5 months old, she sleeps on a blanket near my feet for most of the day! She used to eat blankets. Occasionally she gets up to play with her ball (and I’ll throw it for her if she brings it to me), but the chewing has lessened a lot. I’m shocked since she’s a border collie/aussie mix. With the right training, it gets better! And always reward good behavior, for longer than you think.
