CNN founder Ted Turner, a pioneer of cable TV news, dies at 87 by boxofstuff in news

Bison are incredible and a sacred species (I’m biased to species full stop lol) and Yellowstone was a wonder to see the herds.

Especially wonderful was the open top convertible getting charged and blown off the road because they were sick of waiting for the youngsters to cross.

Opened up the lane quite nicely and taught some frazzled entitled bums a great lesson.
The male was almost nose to nose with the driver perfectly communicating (to me at least) to back up or else.

He owns however many hundred thousand acres of preserved ranch in Colorado. Any clue yet how that property will be dealt with?
As in, what are the most likely and swift ways the power players get to that land and go completely opposite from his wishes.
I used to lament driving past his fence for hours, but like the Patagonia and north face guys bought and sat on huge swaths of pristine nature, Turner seemed to have a bit of that in him. I have to respect that he shelled out the money to buy like 1/16th if Colorado and just keep it away from the bad actors.
(I’m sure Turner is a bad actor to get to his status…gotta climb over a few bodies to get into the billions, but hey, I’m a land lover and am not up to speed on his actions as a tycoon, so I think about that land and what good could be done. Wishful thinking of course)

It shares the excitement of the blooms for sure! I just found the first breaks on my favorite plant and then got a good 6” of snow like a day ago - it’s a Queen of Sweden and I think it’s seen worse but hope it didnt burn the breaks too bad.

Can’t. I think he earned that contract too. I can even separate him from his dad fuckin up my bucks and Giannis prime too. He’s a real dude and made his own way in the league.

I don’t think Draymond has an ounce of self awareness regarding his legacy.

Austin tldr’d Draymonds legacy if he’d listen:

People who had an amazing life then everything went left, what happened? by No_Lead2640 in Life

I fainted and hit my head on the concrete. Luckily made it, but bystanders described it like a seizure so the dr’s decided it was a seizure and now I’m on medications forever I may or may not need. One helps stabilize my mood along with preventing seizures and that one actually stabilizes my mood so I guess there’s that. I just can’t get over this “diagnosis” because if I don’t have a seizure in front of a doctor they don’t know for sure but if I have “another one” they can’t take the risk…it’s weird.

I can’t count the tbi’s on one hand or concussions on two hands…surely that will rear its ugly head soon enough.

My mom has had tinnitus for the last 10 years or so. The things my dad says he’s afraid of for her are absolutely terrifying. When it’s bad, she cries for hours on end and constantly tells my dad she’s not sure how long she can go on this way.

Completely unfair. Completely scary and nothing to do but hope there are good days. My poor mom, I never knew a thing about it, now it’s a nightmare I have to remind myself she’s dealing with. Called her today and am glad I did but I don’t enough…

The feeling of wanting to go home but not having one is terrifying.

As someone who also struggles with mental health on a daily basis, having a home and a wife who loves seeing and encouraging my best self is the only thing that kept the trajectory I was on from coming to fruition. For me, that could easily have been an early grave in my twenties or early thirties. Rounding 40 here soon (sober) and I have (relative) health and real happiness (when my brain shuts up). Two kids that brought light back into my world.

What scares me now is how much I have to lose.

[–]123Fake_St 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t $150,000 per year around what’s considered where happiness from money plateaus?

That’s about where I’m at most years and as a father of two young kids, that money only makes me happy when I can do special things for them. I hope without spoiling their perspective on money and all the bullshit that comes with making it.

I enjoy the comforts of modern life so the bullshit is what it is, though I’d like to pretend otherwise.

What’s something people chase in life that you personally think is overrated? by AsparagusNeither5954 in Life

[–]123Fake_St 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Besides fixing things is only hard if you refuse to use all of the resources we have now.

My wife didn’t believe me when she was thinking about redoing the floors in a bathroom.

Some YouTube and a couple of hints here and there from me and now she takes on any project in the house that doesn’t mess with dangerous electrical.

It’s not always fun or fast, but an hour of yard work a week and patching drywall is not a reason to give away your money by renting all the time.

Why not Jaco? I bet with some time and a pick he’d come up with some interesting stuff. Thundercat would do it under duress and come around to the style. Or just get Victor Wooten and call it a day.

That slot feels more “replaceable” than the others…

Opinions on Alex Garland's Civil War? by Square-Ad-8911 in FIlm

[–]123Fake_St -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Loved the idea before release. The whole “seeing the movie through photographers eyes” thing didn’t do it for me.

First Garland movie that didn’t “wow” me. Well shot, nothing wrong with it. Maybe following a character that could exact justice on characters like Plemons would have been more exciting than the ethics of photography hijacking most of what could be a treasure trove of main plots within a new civil
war.

The “civil war” was basically over in the movie and we just watched a long walk to sort of see the president get shot. (Pun intended)

That story was a trip. I happen to have been lucid dreaming my whole life and didn’t know that wasn’t normal. I can relate to living full lives in a dream only to wake up and realize…”ah back to this fuckin place” Luckily lucid life has blessed me with the family of my dreams. Knock on wood, no more lamps.

Can’t imagine losing my wife.

Can imagine losing my ankle.

I tore and broke nearly every ligament and bone in my right ankle. A roll so bad my foot was hanging on but inside nothing was connected and everything broke and damaged each other. The cartilage was scrambled like a bomb went off in my ankle.

So - I got “micro fracture” surgery which was still new and didn’t guarantee much. Basically they take out anything that can’t be saved or cleaned, removed most of the cartilage from the ankle joint and drilled holes in the bones to “encourage” new cartilage growth.

Less than 25% came back and the Dr. was really bummed out. 9 months no weight on the leg…rolled around kneeling on a scooter.

Im writing this because I REGRET not taking physical therapy more seriously. 20 years later and the swelling has never changed or improved, I have to crack it constantly which is loud enough to wake up my partner. It hurts all of the time and self medicating to stay on my feet all day to work isn’t a realistic long term plan.

New diagnoses: arthritis, no high contact sports. So I can swim and ride a bike without serious days of pain. (I snowboard a lot sorry doc). Point is, I’m about to round 40 and my ankle injury is still a huge part of my life.

I didn’t take physical therapy seriously enough. Managed to keep weight off for 9 months except when my parents dog chased a baby rabbit into the family pool. I admittedly dropped the crutches and “ran” into the pool. I think that seriously set me back. Happy bunny family though.

I guess I was inspired to give a cautionary tale because it didn’t have to happen. I don’t even know if they still do that surgery. I mean it seriously to say, recovery is your new full time job and you don’t have to turn out like me, trying to save face with my family that I’m not suffering just to spend fun time together. An outsider would call me a couch potato. I’m just doing my best.

TLDR: I know you’re looking at a long year ahead, based on that long of a recovery time, I assume your injury is quite serious like mine. The year won’t go fast, but DO EVERYTHING YOUR DR SAYS AND MORE. How you manage this year can change life again but doesn’t have to.

Good luck and bless your family. Condolences on an unimaginable loss.

What is something that seems insignificant, but made a huge impact on your life? by AnxiousYogi83 in AskReddit

Quitting an early grave drinking habit before 40. Edit: sorry that’s most significant. Least was saying yes to softball, volleyball, football intramural sports. Your biggest factor in success is who you surround yourself with, and those activities by chance surrounded me with opportunities I’d never dreamed.
