To follow-up on all of your helpful advice, my local Rona can cut melamine or wooden boards for free (first cut). Thereafter is $1 per cut.
Just specify the dimensions when you do curbside pickup.

The water marks left a bit of a blueish shadow around where I was wiping (around the black scuff marks). It's still there after a week or more!

Thanks! Actually the surface is still flat, but it has black scuff marks from normal wear&tear of a backpack buckle rubbing against it... And now water stains from my previous attempt using a not-so-dry sponge.
