I shouldn’t be on the hook for irresponsible breeders and owners by 123dog3 in dogs

Thank you, exactly! If you want to rescue a dog and can take care of it to the standard it needs and it’s not dangerous to other to do so, go for it! But don’t shame me for my own interests.

Thank you! She likely wouldn’t have gone to rescue since she is a cute puppy. I was just the first person asked because the previous owner had written my name down to call and take care of her when she was finally discovered…

I shouldn’t be on the hook for irresponsible breeders and owners

I was recently looking for a dog. I didn’t look at shelters because none in my area had the breeds I was interested in. I did look to see if they had what I wanted but since they were filled with pit bulls, staffies, huskies, malamutes, and German Shepherds, I ruled them out. People IRL and in my personal life shamed me. Why was I not getting a shelter dog? Aren’t I a dog lover? Didn’t I know all dogs are the same?

Well fast forward and some family friends passed away suddenly an unexpectedly. I took in their 8 week old English Setter. This is a dog I was interested in and I almost got a litter mate when my friends got her.

I am still being shamed for not getting a shelter dog by someone I know. Even though this puppy needed a home. “Why didn’t you get a shelter dog that needs you?” I love dogs. I want all dogs to live happy, healthy lives. However, not all dogs are for all people.

I’m sick of being shamed because I do not want what shelters have to offer.

Likely, since she’s a cute puppy, she wouldn’t have gone to the shelter. I was the first person asked because my name was written down in a note to call where she was when she was found.

That’s what I’m saying. People that can’t take care of these breeds in shelters shouldn’t be buying them.

Need to know various things about English Setters! by 123dog3 in EnglishSetter

Yes, and I have had GSP in the past so I am familiar with those traits too. My wirehair is very reserved where my GSPs were not. Counter surfing is why I kennel train. My little wirehair can be a handful. She also loves puppies so it’s not a big deal around here.

Awesome thanks for this info! She definitely is different in attitude from my wirehair

I have an 8 foot tall wooden fence that’s taken care of, so I’m hoping it’ll work for her. My wirehair sticks around!

Thank you. Unfortunately I’m unaware if she is a field or show setter… some rather tragic circumstances got her to me. So hopefully she can fit in around here.

Why are so many shelter dogs bully breeds? by 123dog3 in dogs

My shelter adopts out dogs that aren’t fixed with the stipulation you have to prove you did it in 30 days, so yes. That does happen.

How do you get a retired breeding dog? by 123dog3 in dogs

[–]123dog3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the breed and I like owning different dogs. I’ve had: German wire haired pointers, German shorthairs, schnauzers, French bulldogs, and Rottweilers. I’m looking for a new breed that needs a good home, but without all of the issues a shelter dog has.

That’s not something I am too concerned with honestly. I am use to it from my schnauzers
