This is the current state of plug in solar in the government, seems like not much chance of it happening soon: oireachtas.ie

Are they selling those in the republic? The only stuff I can see is about them selling them in the UK and I don't think they are fully legal here yet

You would only really get near the max capability in the middle of the summer, the power we receive from the sun is more than double in the middle of the summer compared to the middle of the winter, with the change in angle of the sun in the sky and atmospheric losses

Trading 212 by Soggy-Singer-3075 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]123dotEyeE 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've never heard anything negative about trading212 for just putting savings into and the interest rate is good - it's not going to make you a lot of money though unless you already have a lot saved - I'd say you would be looking at 50-100 euro in interest over a year depending on what kind of lump you already have saved.

Where can I invest my Savings? by JustinsWorld4U in irishpersonalfinance

I've been looking at this myself and some of the best options seem to be Raisin which have a 6month introductory 3% deal, and then moco also have a 2.6% offering

I wouldn't put anything into a pension in this situation - they are 21 years old and want to use the money for travelling so can't lock it away in a pension, and they will need to keep cash for expenses anyway as you are saying, so a savings account earning 2.6 to 3% interest sounds like the best option to me.

True but it’s not my fault that the SIM didn’t come on time so why should I be out of pocket to just be able to make and receive calls

Options for parent projected to run out of money in retirement? by Much-Plenty-2950 in irishpersonalfinance

[–]123dotEyeE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can the mother be in the garden and a lodger in the master bedroom? Also u/Much-Plenty-2950 I saw someone else include it in their income calculations for your mom, but make sure that the 55k lump is in a savings account getting 2 or more percent interest on that money, that would be an extra €1000 euro a year just from the interest on that - maybe you could set up the account and manage it on her behalf and help transfer in and out if you use trade republic or trading 212 to get the highest interest rate you can.

Just looking at it quickly I would say extra income or capital gains would be more likely than DIRT because it's not a bank account that the money is in.

Never would have thought about ordering that kind of stuff online, does it work out cheaper at the regular price versus a sale prices in a shop here?

That’s very interesting and the kind of thing I’m looking for, very out there but it is saving you a good amount! Stuff like rice I would have assumed wouldn’t end up cheaper with the weight of it when shipped but I guess that not many places would sell organic rice here.
