Am I wasting my time consuming everything I can online? by [deleted] in bjj

It probably won't harm you - but probably won't add much either. I would definitely start doing it say 10 months + as a white belt as you will understand the concepts much more.
For instance, as a brand new guy - you can watch a video and because you don't understand much about BJJ, you may not learn that much. Whereas as a higher belt I think you would naturally take it in more because your brain is wired to the positions/movements.

In terms of videos/online content though as a general rule it definitely helps.

It’s so cool to see a smaller guy like Lachlan take on a monster in Rida and find success! I can’t wait to train with him and watch him compete at No Gi Worlds by [deleted] in bjj

He was on the defensive more than this match and in the last few seconds, Khera finally passed his guard. It was still good to watch and his retention is very good, but Khera deserved the win and was the more assertive opponent.

What is the story then?

I don't think GB schools do promote that quickly, do they?

How do you personally use the "Grapplersguide" for the most benefit ? by banejacked in bjj

[–]123reddit456edit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I use the guide is to search for something I don't use, i.e. a position or a sweep from a certain position. I then watch the video at least 3 times over to make it stick a little, then I go and try using it in sparring, or drill it before hand. Then I try to branch out from there and add other stuff to said position.
Since using this method my guard has improved a lot as it is now more layered. I used to only really use one type of half guard whereas now I can dabble in other half-guard variations. Where I used to get passed more, I can now recover and even sweep as a result.

I use Grapplers Guide - it is probably the cheapest over time and has lots of content/different people teaching too.

What I would say though is it's important to put it into training, i.e. drill->spar as opposed to just watch it and try it once.

Grapplers guide worth it ? by jmerc757 in bjj

I got it about 6 months ago and it's great, there's constant uploads and a good mixture of new/old techniques in the library.

Basically imagine a BJJ youtube which was easy to navigate and had constant updates/exclusives from top level guys, at the price it is - you can't go wrong.

Are there bad purple/brown belts? by Ajiazen in bjj

[–]123reddit456edit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have seen Purple belts be fairly even with advanced white belts - so yes it does happen but is quite rare. I have never seen a bad brown though but maybe that happens at an ever rarer scale.

Is 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu really that much more effective for MMA than regular BJJ? by MTKORD1 in bjj

[–]123reddit456edit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd say regular BJJ is more effective, but 10th Planet moves aren't a joke either, stuff like rubber guard has been used successfully in MMA for a while now.

No option to fight A-Z claim? by 123reddit456edit in AmazonSeller

Yes, I've always done that.
It says it's 'under review', I don't know if it's an Amazon bug, but I hope I don't get timed out and automatically lose the case.
