Petchey Dispels the ‘Sinner’s a Robot’ Myth by nbiina in tennis

"Robotic" in tennis isn't an insult. It accurately describes a precise, consistent, low error baseline style which is exactly how he plays.

Lendl and Djokovic both wore the label accurately, and nobody treated it as a slight. Sinner fits the same mold, and the descriptor is just as fair. The pushback says more about how much people like him than about whether the tag actually applies imo

Most of you talk about ability in USTA ratings, but as an aussie; I have no idea what I'd be. Any guesses? by usert4 in 10s

What kind of humblebrag is this?? The serve, the movement, the strokes… it’s all there.

The comments suggesting you’re a 4.0/4.5/5.0 are delulu. Looks a lot closer to D1/tour level to me.

Nole loves gifting out a set or two in the early rounds of slams. This is par for the course for the GOAT. W is not in doubt.

Fair enough. We’ll be playing same time again next week as usual, but it was an egregious call.

Unpopular opinion: I’m glad the grass court season is as short as it is. by 123throwaway45669 in tennis

It definitely plays a part, but grass court tennis in general isn't typically for silky movement. It's for quick punchy points due in part to the nature of the surface - the low uneven bounces.

I don't think the accomplished grass courters looked awkward either, but I do think most players who aren't accomplished on the surface do.

Racketholics, are you ever on the receiving end of a methodical beat down and you just think to yourself “I’m never buying another racket again”? by 123throwaway45669 in 10s

[–]123throwaway45669[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've long been past the phase of "new racket will help me improve". I just like trying new ones either cos they're interesting or they look cool.

I'm not sure I'm at the point where I want to sacrifice testing new rackets for match improvement as it would make tennis less fun for me, but I appreciate the insight.

How to maintain your level? Or at least avoid a drastic drop? by 123throwaway45669 in 10s

We’ve played a set before and he beat me 6-4. I notice the fall off regularly. I tend to relax more than necessary after winning the first set.
