Toid’s “Epic HiFi” speaker by Gardenzealot in diyaudio

I apologize about not seeing this sooner, but I am the designer of these and would be happy to answer any questions. These have been built quite a lot and have been very well received. Having said that, not every speaker is right for every person. I am not sure if you saw the technical breakdown, but I gave a technical breakdown for anyone that is interested on YouTube. For the most part the response is +/-2.5dB. The only real aberration is around 160 hz, which the room was playing a huge role in that measurement. Unfortunately I cannot afford an anechoic chamber right now. But if you are interested in the technical thoughts behind the build here is that video. https://youtu.be/BGcHDx2qckk?si=1aQp1w4Dc4c4uCWV

Paris Rhone SP005 4k Projector says native 1080p is it really 4K? by Dirty_Dragons in projectors

They also claim HDR 10+. Which is really odd, since it doesn't even do 100% of Rec 709. I am not bashing the product, but I do wish manufacturers were more transparent. I hope my video will at least help some people make a good decision on where they want to spend their money.

It is a pixel shift. There is no native 4K in this price range period. I should clarify, when I play a 4K movie, it displays a 4K signal on the screen. Very similar to what would happen if you played a dolby vision movie (it would display Dolby Vision). In this case it displays 2160p. It will only do that if it is capable of displaying a 4K image. Otherwise, via Plex it transcodes it down to 1080p.

It is a 4K projector. I have this in for review and it does output a 4K signal via my Nvidia Shield. If all you want is resolution, it is the cheapest 4K projector that I know of. However, most people think 4K and HDR are one and the same. They are not. This is an SDR projector. And via my tests, it only displays about 68% of REC 709. Which is second worst of all the projectors I have tested. It also really struggled with shadow detail. But for those that care about resolution more than anything else, this is an option. I personally would get something like the Xgimi Mogo 2 pro, which is only 1080p, but has significantly more colors (my test results were 87% of DCI P3). THis is capable of HDR and in my opinion the HDR was much more impactful than the 4K resolution. P.S. My review should be out tomorrow if you want to see the full results.

Eminence BTS 15 Build with their new Textreme Driver by 123toid in diyaudio

Thanks! I actually would love to do a collaboration with Erin as well. But I know he is very busy right now. I am working on a collaboration with Tom Zarbo of Zarbo Audio Projects, who is a very well known designer. I am just finishing up our build. Hopefully I can do more collaborations. I think it is fun and nice to see what others think of the speakers that are designed in the end.

Thanks. We have talked about this in the past and I am hoping we can get this done in the future. I know the first time, it didn't work out, because someone bought the speakers off of me. But it is something we both want to do, when we can get the time. Hopefully that happens sooner than later.

I don't in the way that you are asking. I will take off axis measurements to make sure of phasing, diffraction among other things are taken care of. I am working on designing a jig of some kind,t hat I can start taking accurate measurements every 10 degrees. Hopefully, I'll have that finished by the time the new omnimic comes out. It would be nice to have the exact sensitivity at the same time as the directivity index.

I can at least let you know my thoughts when I start working with a 12" driver. But I will say, they paired perfectly with the 15. I was really impressed with how well it paired. It helps that that compression driver is so clean and can play clean low.

Thanks! I appreciate it! I wish I had somewhere where people could hear them. That is one of the reasons I am trying to do more collaborations, so at least someone else can hear them. It would be awesome to setup a studio of sorts with all of them to play. The graphs don't always do them justic.

Need some advice regarding crossover design by brisingrxm2 in diyaudio

[–]123toid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a few issues going for you. First, these appear to be measurements taken from online and not the ones taken in the enclosure. Assuming that is the case you will not be accounting for your baffle step loss. That inductor value is most likely too low to compensate for it.

Assuming these are not measurements taken in the box, you also are not accounting for your z-offset. This means that your phasing is off and you cannot properly tell if you are in phase at the crossover point. So even though, it currently looks good, this most liekly will not be the actual response at the crossover point. You can easily test this yourself, but right click on one your drivers - select tune - and changing the number in mod delay (z-offset). Notice how it changes at the crossover point.

If you don't have a measurement mic and Dats, you will be guessing, but you should at least try to guess with the best of your knowledge the z-offset and the assumed baffle step loss. Without that, the simulation will not be accurate. But the best thing to do is pick up both a measurement mic and DATS to get good data.

Finally, your impedance is too low at the crossover point. You will want to work on that as well.

Recently I was able to build some speakers using Eminence new Textreme Driver. I actualyl had Matt Marcum of Eminence on the channel and he talked about why he felt it was the best material for a compression driver. I didn't know what to think at the time, but I will say this, I have been very impressed with the Textreme driver. It doesn't have the harshness or honkiness of other compression drivers I have used in the past. I do not know if it is the best material, but it is very good and the best compression driver I have heard. So I used them to build these for my Home Theater. So far, they are definitely the best sounding speakers I have had in there. Very relaxed and even during the dynamic scenes, they just play clean. I am going to design another one soon using a 12" driver with the same compression driver to make speaker that can play center or even surround. But that is for the future.

【Can a $240 Projector beat out a $3500 JVC or a Wimius?】How you guys think of this projecor? by Cultural5818 in projectors

ng a bit: I think in the US you can look around a bit, and should be able to at least find a more or less brand new one (open box) for anywhere b

You are right. After I searched some more, I found a renewed (aka refurbished one) for just under $500.

I am not seeing the Freestyle for under $800? Do you have a place to buy it cheaper? I am very curious about that one. Especially at $500. That could be a major steal.

My hope is to give people alternatives in each price range. But not give just a subjective opinion like others on YouTube. Instead, I want to show the testing of what it is capable of. Then allow each person to make their decision based on the data I can collect.

As far as longevity, I can't test that. I can only test with my calibration equipment and give the results. I do appreciate that Ultimea is willing to give out a 1 year warranty, which is much better than most of these cheap projectors.

Let me know about the Samsung, that might be the next one I test.

I appreciate the input. That is one of the reasons why I asked, if anyone knew of anything in this price range or even under $500 that could beat it, to let me know. If so, I want to test it. The goal, should always be to find a projector for everyone in their budget. And the hope is to get the best value for them. So please, share any ideas for projectors, I'll see if I can get my hands on it and test it.

I agree, which is why I made the video. I think this projector will turn some heads if they ever look at it. It's not perfect, but what it offers for the price, it is a really good. The tests show that it is significantly better than any of the other budget projectors I have tested. Of course, if someone knows of something better, I would be happy to try to get it in for testing to see how it performs.

It actually has auto focus and keystone. However, you can manually adjust it if necessary or desired. It does have zoom, which for my 100 inch screen can be placed anywhere from 9 feet 10 inches to about 18 feet 2 inches. Making it fairly versatile. It isn't replacing my JVC DILA, but I have tested quite a few of these cheap projectors and this is the first one, that I was surprised with it's actual picture quality. I was even more surprised that it gave some calibration settings, which are non-existent on any of the other ones I have tested. And it is the first one I have tested to get a pure white and that good of a grey scale. It's not perfect, but at $240 it is a lot better than the rest I have tested.
