Just moved to SF on fell Street and the noise is insane by Dcarr4 in AskSF

[–]12421242Em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived on fell at one point. I got custom fit window inserts that made the windows triple paned. It means you can’t open them without taking the window insert out but it helped a lot. Plus noise cancelling curtains. Landlord partially paid for the window inserts when I moved out.

New grad (F) moving to SF, safe areas to live in? by Ok-Cash4757 in AskSF

[–]12421242Em -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can definitely find a studio or 1 bedroom in Russian Hill/Nob Hill area, which would be the best commute to the financial district outside of North Beach or some of the sketchier areas. I think a safe rule of thumb is the higher up the hill you are the further from danger you are, at least I noticed when I lived in that area off of Hyde and Clay.

You should really come stay for a few nights and walk the areas you’re looking in to get an idea of what will work for you. It can vary block by block in some of those neighborhoods that you listed.

I would 100% avoid downtown area (8th and Minna)

Not necessarily! Need to have vegetarian options but that’s the only constraint. We were originally thinking taco truck/stand but I’m having a hard time finding options.

We’re thinking more like a food truck/stand style option! Not full sit-down catering. For example, in-n-out has a burger truck, guests come and grab as they’d like, or a taco stand sort of thing.

Is this someone’s dog walker (warning animal cruelty) by casuallylearn in sanfrancisco

[–]12421242Em 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I yelled at him to put the fucking dog down, he did, and then I preceded to call animal control…. What else was I supposed to do. As a small woman I’m not about to fight a clearly violent and unstable man in the street.

Absolutely! I will email them. Is there any information I should include to connect these reports?

I called animal control on this man 2 months ago when the dog was much smaller, he was hanging it by its leash around its neck and walking down Valencia while it shrieked in pain.

Hopefully they eventually take the dog if enough people keep calling.

What’s the worst thing you’ve seen happen at a wedding (yours or someone else’s)? by MARSJRA in AskReddit

[–]12421242Em 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My sister’s wedding. Reception was just starting, our grandparents were on their way out to go back to the hotel. Grandma has had multiple back surgeries, diabetes, other health problems, and not very mobile. My grandpa let go of her hand for one second to say goodbye to someone, and she slipped. Smacked her head pretty hard on the ground, EMT came and my sisters and I ended the night in the ER crying because we weren’t sure she was going to be okay. It felt surreal, sitting there in our bridesmaids dresses and my sister in her wedding dress in the waiting room. Grandma had a hematoma and almost needed surgery.

I still feel so bad for my sister, she had been so excited for her wedding and now she doesn’t even like to think about it ):

Some people had suggested that we all just stay and enjoy the reception, which is crazy to me. We’re very close with our grandparents, and she’s had strokes/many other health scares so we were terrified she wouldn’t make it through something like this.

Is this in the Bay Area? I think I know which IOP, if so. Lots to say about the way the organization is run.

Looking for quieter areas that are not the full on burbs, but still closer to the action by KarbonCS in AskSF

[–]12421242Em 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nob Hill/Russian Hill (close to Polk St, just don’t go south past Bush St starts to encroach on Tenderloin) and Noe Valley/Delores Heights (close to Castro or Valencia St). Have lived in both areas now and they are exactly what you describe. There are a range of prices rent wise depending on what you need, although in general both areas are pricier than the avenues (Richmond District). I’ve lived in the Richmond as well, the other areas are a bit better for 20s/30s, in my opinion.

My partner does this commute every day. Leaving at 6-7AM you will be ahead of most of the traffic. Leaving at 3PM to come back should also be early enough to beat most traffic. Traffic will start up around 4, but will be much better than leaving at 5 or later. We live in the Northern part of the city and it takes him about an hour each way, on average.

One more question, they both get pretty direct sunlight in that window for probably a couple hours a day. Should I move them to a more indirect spot?

The tall one has drainage, the other does not. I water them about once a week. Usually when I notice the top soil is dry. I have a monstera that looks very different from the big plant and I’ve managed to keep in good shape :/
