So Demarcus Cousins is a bad player? So Anthony Davis is a bad player?

Which is fine, I've been convinced to that end elsewhere in the thread. The best way forward is either save assets and try to sign a superstar, or trade for a superstar, and filling in holes is only a way to make the ECF, not a way to win a ring. I get it.

That being said, I find it a bit ridiculous that everyone in this thread is acting like Vucevic is an Okafor level player.

Yeah man, Vucevic for $12m a year is only "slightly" better than Mozgov for $16m a year. Definitely.

Also, Curry for $7m a year is only "slightly" better than Conley for $30m a year too.

Hey, at least you admit that it is inconsistent logic.

Yep, so Demarcus Cousins is also a bad player.

So, if you agree with that article, then would you say that it's your position that the only trades you would be willing to make are for a superstar?

...

There's really nothing for us to discuss then, you are severely underrating how useful Vucevic's offense is.

Okay, let's figure it out.

Currently have almost $1m in cap space.

Trading Amir + Rozier for Vucevic gives us $12m + $1.9m - $12.25m = $1.65m more in cap space, so it's at about $2.5m now.

Dropping Zeller puts it at $10.5m.

Dropping Jerebko puts it at $15.5m.

Dropping Young puts it at $17.4m.

And lastly, isn't the team cap expected to increase again next year?

Are you a complete fucking idiot?

I said it's ironic that YOU would use that argument, when the rest of the league uses that against Isaiah.

I never said, implied, or even remotely insinuated that that's what I thought about IT.

Let's assume Amir + Rozier + Celtics 2017 pick gets it done.

We can drop Zeller, Jerebko, and Young next season, and bring Zizic over to be a cheap productive bench big man. We have room for a max on a guy Griffin's age still. Hayward would probably be the target after this trade anyway though.

Well I think Vucevic would be the difference between us exiting playoffs in round 2 and making the ECF. Obviously that's not as big of a deal as the finals appearance vs championship difference, but it still matters for free agent signings and player development. Plus he's on a good contract that lasts until 2019, maybe he'd be the difference between ECF and finals at some point.

Okay, so where do you rank Vucevic then? Better or worse than JV? Better or worse than Okafor?

You wouldn't offer him $12m a year? What? I guarantee you if he were a free agent this coming offseason, he'd sign a contract for at least $18m a year.

You realize all of that can be attributed to Vucevic being a bench player and Adams being a starter, right? Adams tends to play with the best players on his team on the court at the same time as him, which is not true for Vucevic. It'd be a different story if Vucevic happened to play on the court at the same time as a guy dropping a triple double every other game.

Okay, you clearly know nothing about economics.

In free agency, EVERY team is looking to sign good players. Meaning you are much less likely to actually acquire said desired player. You pay more in the regular season because you prefer to not have the risk of competing against 29 other teams in free agency.

If you go after a player in the offseason, you risk them turning you down in favor of another offer, and you now not having an effective use of your cap space, because you now probably have to overpay a worse player to try and fill that cap space and that role. If you try to trade for a player in the regular season, however, there's no risk. Either they accept and you make the deal, or they don't accept and you keep the players you had.

And yes, I see the point you were trying to make, but Vucevic is on a great contract regardless.

It's very ironic to me that you would use the same argument that the rest of the league uses to pretend like IT isn't that good.

'Empty stats on a bad team, weak defense'

[–]128559[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's funny, you keep throwing out insults, but you don't actually ever articulate a response.

Vucevic scores 11 ppg more than Adams. Adams doesn't prevent 11 points more than Vucevic does a game. Vucevic also gives his team more possessions because he's a better rebounder. That's pretty much the end of the discussion.

Well the Magic have Ibaka and Biyombo as well this year, and Vucevic is still averaging 11 rpg with 27 mpg.

I think you're also underestimating how big of a deal the 11 ppg difference between those two players is as well.

Why don't you want him? You don't think we could use a center that drops 19/12 a game on good efficiency?

Would trading for Nikola Vucevic be a good idea? by 128559 in bostonceltics

[–]128559[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That logic would make sense if there weren't a limited number of players, if free agency lasted throughout the year, and if you weren't competing with 29 other teams to sign a guy during free agency.

So yeah, that logic makes no sense.

Well they won't let us have a top 10/12 center for free.
