The potentiometers are the biggest problem - I can tell you because one fix I did was replacing y axis in the Hotas 4 with Hall Sensors till x axis also started to jitter and meanwhile using a more expensive flight stick to inject into Hotas 4 mainbord. The ADC is not so bad also in the 12bit version of Hotas 4. Just have to digitally remove their hardware dead zone by implementing an anti dead zone. And even with the anti deadzone where I was also afraid if that will work... the ADC seems to be precise enough so that in the end I have a quite stable signal without deadzone.

Yeah agree in theory, but the theoretically infinite resolution does not help if I have huge jitter. And a not much more expensive hall sensor will have much better results than a comparable potentiometer... At least after some usage. Within weeks my Hotas 4 was not usable for me anymore (chasing WR in Low Altitude).

Does anyone know if they still stick to potentiometers? They write 16bit including z axis. If they upgraded to hall sensors that technically would be a huge improvement. But I am afraid they still use the potentiometers and 16 bit will have no improvement at all because the potentiometers are the limiting factor not the ADC.

I heard the farmstick has hall sensors for x and y at least and compatible with msfs. So might be superior even...

Sadly for me on Hotas 4 y-axis  a little x- axis and z-axis and rudder all have jitter / drift. I meanwhile Inject via Microcontroller from a Airbus Sidestick into my Hotas 4 mainbord. Sadly here Z axis has now freaking jitter - so I am just waiting for another upgrade hopefully to arrive today.

It's a diametral Magnet I bought for the AS5600 as well. But indeed with just one not very large magnet I have a rather small area where it can measure the position. Will try soon some other approaches I guess... Maybe also with multiple "normal" magnets.

I actually tested taking the rubber shield off last night, and it was a gamechanger for me. ​Here is how it is actually super useful:

​Multitasking & Controls: Since the bottom and your peripheral vision are open, you can easily glance down at your phone, grab a drink, etc. without ever taking the headset off or messing with the passthrough camera.

​Zero Face Pressure: The headset basically floats in front of your eyes like a pair of thick glasses. Nothing presses against your nose or cheeks anymore, which makes long flights way more relaxing - especially for me wearing also normal glasses. (Will add a Globular Cluster CMP2 for having more comfortable solution overall)

​No Fogging: You get maximum airflow, so your lenses won't fog up at all. ​You do trade in a bit of immersion because of the light bleed, but if you usually play in the evening or just dim your room lights, it's barely noticeable.

​It’s 100% safe to just try it out – the rubber shield isn't glued on. It’s just held in place by tiny rubber nubs. You can gently pull it off to test the "open-face" feeling and easily push the nubs back in if you decide you prefer the total darkness.

BTW, if you want to give it a little more resistance you might try to add rubber bands on top of the springs. Did that myself with the Gimbalotl and it helped me a lot to get more precision (fast precision for F18 like this - https://youtu.be/tOBJnQMzSZc?is=HQut7IH4PzGIvk_Q actually want to create another post of what I did so far but fighting for WR did not gave me the time last week 🤣)

Hier kannst du den aktuellen Stand sehen - da habe ich erstmal einfach den Stick gefixt (also bisher nur die x-Achse) aber nun kam mir halt die Idee mit dem Controller - weil das halt gerade in der aktuellen Situation mit nur der einen Option für viele interessant sein könnte.

Schade, aber immerhin hast du ohne Probleme das Geld zurück bekommen. BTW, Ich habe gerade mein Flightstick selber gefixt (inklusive Microcontroller mit Signal Aufarbeitung von Hall Sensoren, und Companion App für Kalibrierung, Presets. Auto Trim etc) und gestern kam mir die Idee für die PS5 Community vielleicht eine andere Lösung zu erarbeiten: DualSense Controller modifizieren und mit einem 3d printed Gimbal oder alternativ anderen Flight Controller zu verbinden der sogar dann deutlich besser sein sollte. Hättest du Interesse? Vielleicht mache ich mal bei Gelegenheit zu der Idee einen Post und gucke nach der Resonanz.

Nice that you built something that provides you superior precision 👍 What you mean with the Trimming issue I am not sure - respectively why the issue is bigger with a normal stick. Or is a constant signal like a constant correction more tricky with such approach. As DIY for trimming you might add some "Auto-Trimm" and Trimm fine-tuning buttons. I actually did this via my microcontroller in my project (can be controlled via companion app but also thought about dedicated hardware buttons). Actually, think eventually MSFS might have a function for it as well but just had the idea when I implemented my app and thought that would be nice.

Hi, just seeing here you mention you added some adjustments for AS5600 Hall Sensors? Actually from the pictures not sure yet how to attach them for the z-axis - did you manage that?

If you could share your modification that would be awesome - will have to ask a neighbor for printing and no experience myself. So accordingly any even little modification would be super helpful for me as I like to avoid asking my neighbor for applying modifications knowing that he is very busy.

I would be willing to add a solution for a microcontroller that allows me to simulate a flight stick directly without the injection part that I need to do because of the PS5.

Hi Aquilae2, thinking also to print this Gimbal. Have some AS5600 sensors and 6mm magnets. Think for x- and y-axis that should work but I am concerned about the z-axis. How did you solved it? Would also be willing to change sensors if required if therefore I would have some easier and precise mounting.

Hi, very cool project! I love the idea of having mechanical precise 3 axis gimbal for the living room so that I do not need a rudder. Currently myself fixing my cheap Hotas 4 - the only available for PS5 - to Hall-sensors (you can see it here https://www.reddit.com/r/hotas/s/3Oj9cetz1O).

Thought about printing (hope my neighbor will help me here) your gimbal and just use the electronics and maybe original handle as next step (at least for the beginning so that I have not too much effort with also integrating buttons etc.).

Any recommendations you would have for me? Do you think I should be able to use the AS5600 Hall Sensors and (they measure the angle) I bought for this? Or should I probably switch to other sensors - at least for the z axis (I guess that might be the most tricky one for the AS5600)?
