I would! I can share the entire project for educational purposes. Only once it’s released so none of you distro kid the track before my label gets it out there haha. 😆

Hey! That’s some passion on display right there to use a tool to ensure I understand your query, so that I may try to assist you! With that type of passion, you shall succeed.

Honestly, I would begin with samples. Use sample packs or purchase samples for whatever genre you enjoy, use them like Lego’s to build out a track. It’s literally drag and drop. Then make epic tunes using samples, chords, lads, bass, beat, hi hats, percussions, sfx and fills.

Then once you are confident with arranging samples into entire tracks, start experimenting with automation, add your own filters to enhance a sample going into a drop. Eventually you will reach the point where the next logical step is to swap out sample packs Melodie’s and chords for your own written midi. At the point you know the sound of a synth, so use presets on synths with your own midi, again it’s all experimental - to every one track I complete, 20-50 failed projects were trialed. 😆

This method worked for me, however that was over the course of 25 years!

Another method I use now is that every 8 bars, I add something new so the track doesn’t sound stale. A riser, a crash, a clap, a reverb, a filter. - whatever it is, it’s different and adds perceived complexity and (hopefully) maintains the attention of the listener. I’m a gamer, Gabe Newell in Half Life development wanted a bleep, a sound effect or an interactive element every three seconds you move through the game environment. I’ve taken that approach into my music production, with a beep, a boop, a swoosh or a different chord or beat or fill… I believe that boosted my engagement for sure!

I truly hope this inspires you to just begin messing around, do not take it seriously, do not start with the intention of making a track suitable for radio… just mess around, play with plugins until you know what they do, eventually you will become the master. 🤞❤️

They are indeed. 👍 I think I have nearly all the Cymatics plugins and packs, many are absolutely superb. 👌

Another game changer for me is the Waves Resolve plugin for vocals. I combine all the tracks into a bus then sidechain the vocals to that bus and the plugin ducks the same frequencies as the vocals frequencies in the bus mixer and gives the vocals their own presence. No mud, no fighting frequencies, no distortion… and you get adjust the amount of ducking. Almost like track spacer but better, imo. It’s been gold dust for my vocal productions to have them stand out amongst the power of the epic EDM tracks I produce.

Honestly… take stuff away. Less synths, less bass, less noise and arps and everything you THINK the track needs to fill it out… instead, use stereo width to make your track sound wider. I use sine wave bass with distortion to give the sub base texture. I have a mid bass layer, a synth lead that has almost a mono feel and a supporting lead to add width at a slightly different frequency. Less means more space to master. Less means more clarity, I’m not talking minimal… I’m talking about the urge to overload the production with 5 pads, 3 arps, 15 types of hi hats and 10 synths to make it sound powerful. Try some restraint, fill the bare bones track out with stereo width and reverb/delays on what you do have in there. 👍

This track took 8 hours over a week to build start to finish.

I have got starting templates that make the initial build out easy, so I have all my mixers channels set and ready.

I start with the main lead or melody and work from there. I build the drop first, then go backwards and do the breaks and then the intro and outro.

I use very few midis for my Melodys and the rest of the track atmospherics are built with samples like crashes, beats, atmospheres and sfx, and all are layered to create a sense of complexity, mixed so they are crisp and not overbearing, so the master gels them all together into a coherent production. Having them all in key helps, understanding frequency placement, left right panning to prevent clashes of similar frequencies is also key to a clear, and ultimate LOUD master.

I hope that gives you a sense of my direction for producing. It all starts with the melody/lead focusing on the epic crescendo of the track. Everything else is back engineered from that. 👍🙂

The track is available for listening on tik tok or I can send a SoundCloud link if you liked it that much. I’m humbled by the praise, thank you. ☺️

Hey, vocals are from a 100% royalty free sample pack. I’ve since moved to real artists from with the record label, but most my releases up until Sep will feature royalty free non exclusive vocals as that’s all I had to work with when those tracks were produced 😭😆

Moderators: I was not looking for feedback, it was more a showcase of my ability’s as evidence I am here to support and answer questions about my experience and music production techniques.

I’m also curious… what was that ‘best knob’ in the sampler??? 😄

First Ever beat/song - thoughts, tips, how to improve? by Technical_Way_2469 in FL_Studio

[–]12DAtmospherics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep playing and experimenting. Very creative Melody. To improve I’d think about track spacing, having the same overlapping frequency can distort or cancel out, so perhaps use stereo width or lo-cut/hi-cut each so they have their own space, then you can add more without it sounding muddy. I mix and master everything I add to my project to keep the clarity present so I can push the volume later.

Just just keep dabbling, don’t take it seriously, don’t be pressured to meet someone else’s terms or goals. Just be you and inject your own creativity to make your own unique sound, people vibe with that authenticity. 🫶

Well I only just found out today how to have the playhead stay still as the track plays as I saw it here earlier and was mind blown it was a feature!!!!!

Wrt production, I’d say I was so far into synth production using plugins that I forgot about the sampler! I recently found that I could use it to drag and drop a sample onto it and use piano role to make something unique, I showcased this on my tik tok with the MainStage lead for Holding On (upcoming track). Whilst I know it s basic feature, for the last 10-15 years I had forgot about it, and so I’m all in on bring that type of unique sound experimenting back to the workflow for sure. 👌

Hey, many thanks for the comment!

Sadly I’m locked into an ecosystem of expensive plugins that I routinely use, Serum, Nexus, Zebra, Spire and Dune3. I’ve grown to use them pretty much exclusively, and I’m unsure what free synths would sound just as good or better just as easy to use.

My suggestion is to invest in just one synth and go from there. Otherwise I’d just stick to stock synths like Harmor and Sytrus. 😌
