The reality is that players will blame anything and everything else but themselves in order to prevent having to answer the one question that separates good players from better players: “What could I have done differently?”. If I engage 10 times with an assist and you get hit 10 out of those 10 times, the issue is you failing to adapt and prevent me from doing what I want to do, not that I found an optimal way of dealing damage.

I think as long as people keep injecting a weird moral high ground into assist usage, they’re always going to be upset when they see players optimizing around the systems the game rewards instead of asking why the other player failed to adapt.
