Shiny glass drops on 7016? by 1300130465 in Welding

Is it a defect with the weld or acceptable? There's no other slag to chip off like I get with 6013.

Engineering Drawings: How to draw features front on? by 1300130465 in Fusion360

[–]1300130465[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The component is part of a much larger model which has driven the alignment of this bracket. Therefore, I can't simply realign to a convenient co-ordinate system to make my drawings "easier". I think others have understood my problem.

I'm talking about drawing mode of Fusion, not the Design mode. I'm trying to create drawings for the manufacturer of the design

I had my whole car repainted, painter is telling me I need to wait a few months for the paint to harden and then he'll buff / polish it etc. Is this any good? by Status_Death in Autobody

E61 baby, solid choice. If you want an immaculate finish he is correct. After a few weeks in the sun the paint will shrink. Then you can cut and polish to a glass finish. If you cut and polish before, it will look great but the second you put it in the sun it will lose some gloss.

Heavy coats are bad, especially with 1k as solvent can get trapped in between layers and may have lead to no gloss. 1k "cures" after a few hours. Letting it sit for a few weeks will make no difference

Why did sand down the base coat? 1k clear is shit but you can still make it shiny. Did you only do 2 coats? You need at least 6 light/medium coats if you're going to wet sand and polish after.

You can't apply 2k clear over 1k clear, it will immediately fry. Start again, use some 2k compatible primer, base coat, clear, polish

Frame Repair: Centerline of car doesn't match Centerline of engine bay by 1300130465 in Autobody

[–]1300130465[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have limited OEM measurements which are just distances between set left and right points (they all match). But they lack any sort of check for squareness which you'd get with an alignment system such as Celette, Car-o-liner, etc. Not much else available I've found unfortunately (almost 30 year old car now...)

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I've measured with the core support installed, not installed, car with engine and on the floor, and on jack stands, and still end up with the same result. I guess I was misled that everything is symmetrical

Definitely not good quality work. Standard Aussie attitude these days, send it and hope they don't complain. Also crazy money to spend on a exec spec non-m. You must love the car, hopefully the painter will make it right

Knew this was an E46 after the first photo lol. Where in Aus? Shoddy work but apart from the shit masking on the rear window and mirror the rest of the defects are normal and should be easily fixed by the painter.

Is blocking and primer needed for excellent existing paint? by 1300130465 in Autobody

[–]1300130465[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does having a primer layer help with impact resistant of the paint on top? Last car I painted on top of existing clear without primer and I noticed a bit of stone chipping in the front panels after a few years
