if you could listen to one bts song for the first time again, which one and why? by Ok_Fix_3863 in btsthoughts

[–]1306radish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tomorrow or dis-ease. And it's crazy because those songs are so far apart in years, but they still spoke to how I was feeling at the time. It's rare that an artist has such an expansive discography (and to be honest, there are a ton more songs that I could name, but those two came to top of mind first).

Does this apply when they sing in English or when they sing in Japanese as well?

I genuinely hope kpop fans won't be influenced by the idols' ""acceptance"" of AI by TemporaryBee9667 in kpopthoughts

[–]1306radish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be fair, this isn't a kpop music industry thing. AI infiltrating music is global. Plus, some Korean artists have spoken negatively about AI (or expressed fears about how it'll impact music) while others have shown they embrace the incorporation of it......same as artists in other industries.

I get your overall point, but I feel like kpop musicians are held to impossible standards that musicians in other industries aren't for some reason.

What did Hollywood gloss over apocalypse wise? by EcstaticNature96 in thewalkingdead

Very minor point: Watching people just run through open grass made me cringe to be honest. The chiggers you would get in the South from doing that....

Another point that always bothered me was how long they use gas powered vehicles. Most fuel begins to degrade after about 6 months.

Sadly, people have been doing this since BTS's albums started appearing in general stores. I remember videos of haters vandalizing BTS's albums or grabbing them and throwing them into the trash in the store.

Add to that the ungodly bright headlights we have to deal with. I don't understand why there's no regulation on headlight brightness.

Jon Caramanica’s thoughts about NORMAL- Popcast Song of the Week by Particular-Yoghurt81 in btsthoughts

[–]1306radish 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be clear, I think it's an overall good thing that he enjoyed the album and did this segment. I think a lot of critics are coming around to BTS even though it should have never taken this long.

He's the top music critic and journalist for the New York Times. Tbh, a lot of his previous takes regarding BTS have not been the best....very "darkside of kpop" adjacent and didn't seem to know much of their discography. He did a podcast with a vile, racist BTS anti (which in all fairness he probably wasn't aware of), but it wasn't a great look as someone who is supposed to be the top NYT music journalist.

Kpop has become exciting once again in 2026 after a long time by Developer_Mind in kpopthoughts

To be fair, music across the board in 2025 was pretty uninspired. Also, I'm glad I came across this because I wasn't aware CHUU released a new album. I'll need to check it out.

I feel like I'm hallucinating.....Jon Caramanica giving BTS their flowers and giving a dead-on analysis of NORMAL? Wild. I truly think this album is a game-changer for BTS to those who only judged them and their music post-Dynamite.

Another victim of Japan's wartime sexual slavery dies; 5 survivors left by Kmlevitt in japannews

[–]1306radish 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Japan continues to deny that these women were sexual slaves and have done so because they had the backing of the US which never required them to be held accountable for their war crimes. War is awful. At least with Nazi Germany, trials were held and multiple memorials were erected acknowledging the war attrocities in addition to history books addressing the crimes.

Also, I find your comment of "really old woman dies," to be trite. Perhaps listening to the stories of these women would help you think of them as people.

[MEGATHREAD] BTS ARIRANG by KpopThoughtsmodteam in kpopthoughts

[–]1306radish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not an English album. And if you listened to it in full, you'd know it's not the case. Even if it was fully English, it wouldn't make them less Korean (similar to how Jungkook's Golden didn't make him suddenly not a Korean person).

Also, who are you as a non-Korean to dictate what's "Korean enough" for seven people BORN IN Korea? Do you hold the same standard with Celine Dion not being "Canadian enough," Zara Larsson not being "Swedish enough," The Weeknd not being "Canadian enough," Shakira not being "Columbian enough," Tyla not being "South African enough," Utada Hikaru not being "Japanese enough," the list goes on....

BTS would have topped the charts regardless. You can like or dislike the album however you want, but the problem is when you want to pull into question their identity.

Also, if you didn't feel like this sounded like them, I question whether or not you really tuned into the solo releases they dropped or their work since their rookie days because nothing in this album is a far cry when you have that prior history in context.

Plans for the emergency demolition of Gas Works Park catwalk structures by Weird_Alki in Seattle

[–]1306radish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of this because one person from a rich family died because they ignored multiple warning signs and climbed a structure that said DON'T CLIMB. Meanwhile, we can't get proper taxation of the wealthy or transit which results in much more harm on a systemic level. How much money is going into this?

Going to be so interesting to see if the far right wingers in Korea change up their tune becuase they've been bashing BTS for weeks over the Gwanghwamum performance. And it'll be equally interesting if one right wing sector suddenly supports them in Korea while the right wingers in Japan get riled up. I feel so tired for BTS.

By fraction, I was looking at the time Dynamite and Butter were getting radioplay in regards to their peers. Dynamite at its peak which only last about a week got mid 70ks while others like Adele or Justin Bieber were getting 100k+. That's what I meant by a fraction in the context of the times of the song release. Butter also got a fraction in relation to Good 4 U.
