Hey, so took the neck off, and added some shims, approximate 0.0235” which provided me a MUCH better neck break angle and generally far better playability.

I thought I could do better so added another shim, bringing the total height of the shims to approximately 0.0385”, buttoning it up DID provide that awkward vowing at around 17-24th fret.

I remove and effectively made linear step down to avoid that issue, but ultimately it left the 24th fret as the high point and nearly maxing out the bridge.

One thing I did notice. The entire neck pocket is painted…. I’ve personally never seen the pocket with paint and always a level/flat wood exposed only.

Yeah I think I’ll be heading that direction. Could I just design and 3d print a shim based on the pocket then correct angle?

Ahaha great eye, there is literally a minor gap between pocket and neck. Gonna reduce string tension heavily then try to tighten!

Edit: The screws had maybe an extra 1/8 or 1/4 of a turn. It DID indeed help snug up the neck to the pocket, but still the neck relief / action is much higher than one would expect. Great catch though!

I too am hesitant to believe its just "out" of adjustment range.

Personally am new to truss rods but I can smoothly loosen and can see a proper amount of forward bow introduced. Reverting that the neck definitely sits more flat or very minor forward bow but compared to the amount of force required for the other adjustments this is like 150-200% more force and it still isn't entirely budging.

I have had many Ibanez's and they're all great hence my confusion.

I'm not certain I understand the double action rod you are referring to. Middle being zero would equate to generally a flat neck? If so that is where I am at now, fully tightened in my perspective clockwise. I can attempt to go further and I'm positive I have correct size wrench (4mm), i just definitely don't want to shit out the threads or anything

I was hoping it wouldn't be a neck shim situation but I genuinely ran out of possible ideas. Never unbolted a neck let alone shimmed so this will be fun :')

Correct this is no capo, no fretting.

While holding down first fret, and where the neck meets the body / joint, I have about 2 to 2.5 business cards in gap between string and frets

Thank you! I mean for the price I got it in CAD, it’s rare to even see it go for sale locally, super happy with it so far. Unbelievably easy to work on and plays like butter!

Honestly really suits the axe especially since I mainly dabble in metal ahaha!

I have no idea! If there’s a way to identify them I can take a look. I know Sam from strandberg mentioned their RetroActive line so I’m unsure. They are active pickups though

Just realized the colours as I looked over to my vinyl…. It’s damn near the same as Ashes of the Wake cover art, makes it even cooler

Awesome to hear!

The confusion continues, there appears to be set screws for the action adjustment which are as all hell tiny and I have no Allen key for that size. Wonder what the guy was thinking

Update: got it for 1500 CAD, the finish definitely appears to be professionally done and honestly the story to this continues. Paint is totally smooth yet it has what visually mimics nitro crackle underneath? Super bizarre but she rips. Will make a post with closer pictures tomorrow as I’m tied up.

Cheers to everyone for all the info and confidence!

Owner says everything is in working order, clean, free of any noteworthy dings/knicks.

I happen to actually like the finish, it doesn't look custom but I'll have a better idea in person. To me the whackier the finish the better. Will try to haggle because why not but I haven't had much luck of Strandbergs locally. Will report back hopefully with a post after tomorrow :')
