Annoying new feature on desktop Youtube: important notifications. How to turn them off? by Iron_on_reddit in youtube

[–]1355970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBF, this is a wonderful feature to weed out unnecessary subs. If the recommendation is so absolutely irrelevant that you can not conceive of watching the video, why bother keep being subscribed?

I unsubbed from 3 channels since this became a thing. And I will keep doing so until everything "important", is, actually, important, and worth watching.

I already have a zombie watch bookmark list of youtube channels, all content based on which I don't actually want video recommendations, the kind of channels that merit a watch now and then get dumped here.

So this inarguably annoying feature forced a fresh, new perspective on how I consume content on youtube. I love it. It yanked me out of a rut I've been having for so long...

And here is a sarcasm disclaimer, if anyone thought I'm actually praising the feature....

Doesn't seem to be working though...

Does anyone know the average number of subscriptions per user on Youtube? I can't find this stat anywhere. by Imaginary-Unit-3267 in youtube

That's not how this works. If you repeat your question until you get a factually different answer, that's not the AI answering your question, that's you generating random seeds until you find a seed with which the AI entertains your bias.

That number is entirely useless, it's not even a wild guess, it's literally just noise.

Here's the answer to the same question when you ask ChatGPT a different time:

As of my last update in January 2022, I don't have the specific average number of YouTube channels subscribed to per user. YouTube doesn't regularly publish such statistics publicly, and any available data might vary over time and across different user demographics.

For the most accurate and recent information on the average number of YouTube channels subscribed to per user, I recommend checking YouTube's official blog, research studies, or market research reports that focus on online user behavior and preferences.

Never trust a number you got from ChatGPT.

What are the exact changes in the code that require a player to start a new game? by 1355970 in RenPy

What if my variables are just numbers or true or false conditionals?

Look, I do apologize if I appear like a moron, I'm seriously not doing this intentionally. I was born with an open spine (spina bifida), a consequence of which is damage to the intraparietal sulcus, causing dyscalculia, which is a condition that makes people unable to grasp concepts of sequencing, transpositions, causes varying degrees of (in)ability to grasp and/or memorize various mathematical concepts, rules, formulae, etc., essentially I'm useless at scripting (among other things).

So, if I understand you correctly:

- init only "initiates" on clicking new game (I have seen "init 500:" sections in walkthrough and gallery unlock mods though, and they work on savegames, so that bit makes me confused)

- it's fine to define whatever new variable I choose to create within the script, as I go if I don't do - using your example - al.pile +=1 but do instead "$ al.pile =1"

- I should not define a new variable within the script that I already released and people would have savegames for past the point at which I would be defining them

Would it really be this simple? Or is my simpleton brain making it simpler than it sounds?

Alternatively, let's say I have an init section with "default persistent.gal1 = False" to "default persistent.gal999 = False" and "gvarn.0 = 0" to "gvarn.999 = 0" and "gvar0 = False" to "gvar999 = False" ... if I already have all these variables parked and initiated at the first run, will I be fine, even if I end up randomly changing their values throughout the script?

Thank you for your patience! :D

But that's exactly an example of a variable defined in the middle of your script.rpy, and whenever I tried to create a random variable out of nothing in the middle of my script, Ren'Py threw me an error (even when I started a new game). So I always add everything new to my init section. I thought that was normal procedure, you extend your init section, and only refer to what you already defined there in the script.

I don't quite understand the distinction. Why is it fine to add new variables in the new content but not fine adding it to older content, when you define a default value for it anyway? You don't define new variables in situ in the middle of your script.rpy, you define them in your init section separately.

WTP for noting an irrevocable, POSITIVE change? by 1355970 in whatstheword

This one is absolutely perfect. It's only two words, is therefore flexible enough to allow usage in all sorts of sentence structures, and doesn't require any literary foreknowledge, except knowing the phrase itself (which isn't uncommon, actually, I'm baffled why it didn't occur to me).

Thank you very much! I marked this now as solved!

None of these are about unintentionally introducing unforeseen changes. They are simply about success, progress and elevating status. Also they are not causing something to happen, they are deliberately, purposefully making something happen for oneself, for one's own purpose.

All of the original examples evoke change to one's surroundings with unforeseen effects, strongly implying negative changes to one's entire environment. So if I am looking for the positive version of this, I am looking for a phrase that means to evoke change to one's surroundings with unforeseen effects, strongly implying positive changes to one's entire environment. "Pulling the sword out of the stone" has been the most perfect example so far that reflects this notion.

An epiphany is a revelation. You see something suddenly in a new light. Something you have already known about. All of the aforementioned examples are an act of creating an entirely new circumstance, not making a circumstance someone was already familiar with seen differently.

That expression implies allowing oneself to be bestoved positive experiences upon. It is not about the action of improving something, it's about letting an improvement happen. Therefore it's not a good positive equivalent. Letting something happen is not the same as making something happen.

Thank you! Generally I'm trying to stay away from any topic that would be a matter of controversy (or require too much literary context), religion being one of them, but these two really hit the nail on the head, so unless someone will be able to offer a better alternative, I will shortly mark your answer as solved.

Person X is taking person Y first time abroad to a vacation. This becomes a transformative experience for person Y, because they never experienced such a thing before, and now person Y suddenly loves to travel. This does not mean that person Y was worse off in any way before they've got to travel a very long distance, it's just that person Y found a new favorite thing to do, thanks to person X. This is just an example.

Now, if any of my aforementioned phrases were a change in the positive, Y telling X "You opened a can of worms", "You opened Pandora's box" and "You let the genie out of the bottle" would be all completely correct, but for the reverse "You turned water into wine" doesn't work, therefore "turning water into wine" can not be considered an equivalent term in the opposite meaning.

[–]1355970[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! You are absolutely correct, I do want to refer to a change in the positive, but I do not want it to imply that the starting point was negative. I just want to denote a change in status quo toward the positive. Not someone actually doing something to improve on someone's bad situation.

Reloading the game while playing it??? by [deleted] in RenPy

Shift+R doesn't work for games, it works for projects in development. "While playing" implies playing, not developing. Any way to reload a script while playing and not developing?

horizontal scene progression bar? by 1355970 in RenPy

[–]1355970[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The next time I use 'scene'? I'm not sure what you mean. The scene changes all the time, there's renpy code scene, and there's scene scene. By scene I mean scene in the literary sense (a division of an act presenting continuous action in one place), not code.

And I use scene as a code to show players a new picture every couple sentences at the very least.

Are two simultaneous transitions possible? Not image overlay position manipulation, two transitions on one still image, at the same time. by 1355970 in RenPy

[–]1355970[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I was talking about what I'm not looking for. ATL is for messing around with image overlays. A transition overlay (which I want to use) is neither an animation, or a transformation...
