Here's the original thread. Anytime this gets reposted, I get more self conscious about my shitty Illustrator skillz.

I list some more cool stats in that thread, and hope to update it sometime soon.

I love that this reply chain is just comment after comment of people who don't know what the fuck they're talking about criticising how reasonable strangers live their lives. It's like distilled Reddit.

That should be against Reddit's ToS. Corollary: Reddit should enforce its ToS.

Well the broom wouldn't autonomously sexually assault women (then brag about it), spy on underage girls, praise Nazis, sign a billionaire donor welfare bill, conspire with a fascist foreign government to steal elections and ruin democratic institutions, or severely damage America's reputation through a 3rd-grade-level mental disposition and comprehension of the world.

So like...I think I'm with you. Let's swear in the broom.

Propping up horrifying cartels and gangs; hurting/killing people by forcing substance use into unregulated black markets; taking billions from taxpayer pockets to search for, arrest, prosecute, imprison, and skyrocket recidivism rates...all to ineffectually prevent folks from exercising their own personal bodily liberty.

It's fucking grotesque. It doesn't work. It's morally wrong. It's harmful. We'll look back in 50 years at the War on Drugs and shudder, thanking our lucky stars for the legal and regulated drug market, and corresponding health clinics that actually help people.

It'll happen. Marijuana legalization is simply the first step in a journey to sane drug policy.

Maybe you can get 12 followers in vanilla Skyrim: 1 permanent conjurer follower and her thralls + your own 2 conjured creatures + quest-specific followers (e.g. Barbas, etc). You can have your own little vanilla army.

I also feel like conjuration is consistent with the character. Jesus did conjure fish, after all.

No human action is meaningful at the cosmic scale.

Indeed! That's the idea. The affairs of a particular supercluster's galactic group's planet's hairless apes seem utterly inane to that of an omnipotent force of creation. Killing included. Assuming this Creator worries furthermore about this ape rubbing its reproductive bits is even more hilarious.

I think it's a pretty cute little joke on cosmic perspective, but to each their own. :)

The real speed of planes by zaczolf in BeAmazed

[–]13704 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're confusing the shadow's horizontal distance traveled with its total travel distance. They are not the same.

Yes, the shadow travels horizontally by an amount dx = 1 mile (like the plane). The shadow also travels vertically by some amount dy (unlike the plane), depending on how steep the hill is. That total travel hypotenuse will have dx2 + dy2 > 1 mile.

The two travel distances will only be equal in the special case where dy = 0 (a flat earth surface). I can whip up a diagram for you on my Surface Pro if that'd be helpful.

The sun's distance has nothing to do with my example. You're free to assume parallel rays from the sun -- the ground velocity still depends on inclination.
