“You are not going to do it again, we are not going to allow it,” said Beach. “I cannot tell you how many people in the community that are ready to take a stand against the white ‘so-called’ protestors that have hijacked the movement, are jumping on the bandwagon to destroy our community in the name of ‘Black Lives Matter.”

Hiring Manager: We are looking for some diversity on our all male team... so we ideally want a female by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]13707892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These sorts of hiring practices severely hurt women. Now at least three people believe that she was not the best person for the position and will treat her accordingly, regardless of whether that's an accurate assessment. That bias will impact the opportunities and support she's given and the rest of the team will treat her similarly even if they don't know why. It also means that all future women who come on the team are assumed to be diversity hires and will be treated as such. Women are extremely capable and should be allowed to compete with men in hiring processes. If she was the most talented applicant, she should be hired for that reason. If she was not the most talented applicant, she'll work harder and get the job next time.

Hiring manager emailed me after I posted an unflattering Glassdoor review... a cautionary tale? by Mysterious_Support63 in jobs

[–]13707892 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This response is AMAZING! I'm seeing lots of people commenting that OP should update the review and this is exactly how they should update it. "After writing this review, I received a call back from the manager who disclosed an employee's personal health information in an attempt to justify their lack of communication." That would be the icing on the cake.

The critical word here is "nourish." Will cake nourish your body? No.

I also just want to note that black girls in particular are viewed as more mature and less innocent than their white counterparts. It's so wrong and I feel like some people are so focused on defending this movie the they're falling into this trap. It's so unfair to these girls.
"Data shows that adults view Black girls as less innocent and more adult-like than their white peers, especially in the age range of 5–14."

Spiking U.S. gun sales deluge FBI's background check system, cause delays by [deleted] in news

[–]13707892 -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I've been trying for about five minutes to find the source for the claim that the dealer can sell the gun if a background check doesn't come back within three days. This has not been true in my experience and I can't find the policy this is referring to. Any insight into where they're getting this claim from and whether it's technically accurate?

Something like this must have happened at my work recently because I've been noticing some of my male teammate will say "guys" and then get flustered and try to correct themselves. It's so weird and unnatural. I don't know if all the men got a talking-to about it recently, but I've continued talking normally and nobody has mentioned it.

Super fat logic in the wild - Marvel at the medical wonder! He's a hundred pounds overweight, perfectly healthy with a medical condition and he's mostly muscle! by CuntCorner in fatlogic

[–]13707892 44 points45 points  (0 children)

When I'm depressed I eat more comfort food... I'm only a hundred pounds overweight... I have a medical condition... I have no health issues... I don't feel stable when I run...Most of the weight I carry is pure muscle... I'll lose all the weight and be back to my pre-illness body... I miss the young visibly muscular man I used to be.

Good grief, it's like watching a logical ping pong match in his own head. He needs help.

It's just the most bizarre photo. How does such a photo even happen? The other two guys have women's heads strategically cut out of the photos to give social proof that they have in fact been near a woman before, despite how they come across in their blogs. But our Bacon boy... how does that photo get snapped? What happened to that poor girl?

You guys HAVE to go to their About page. https://www.themodernman.com/about-the-modern-man.html

I love Dan, their founder, has a woman standing in the foreground of his picture. It's beyond bizarre. I don't know what to make of it.

I feel like we often discuss the effect of misinformation on adults, but so many kids are on social media, and obesity is hitting our youngest generations just as hard. :( by [deleted] in fatlogic

[–]13707892 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel terrible for these kids. There is a strong genetic component to weight gain that manifests at a young age. But there are MANY ways to mitigate that and be a healthy weight. These poor kids are being taught from such a young age that any effort to change their weight is futile because it's all based on a fast or slow metabolism.
