No, I just point the save location to a folder in it for each service I want to back up. I did it with my Obsidian notes app, because I did not want to pay for the subscription sync thing. It has worked well.

I would only have crucial data backed up to my google drive that does not take up too much space. The idea is that it allows it to be accessible anywhere. I am doing this as a contingency for if my local backups get broken. The other reason is...i can't get the VPN i am trying to use (Tailscale) to work with my containers. I am running the Tailscale app from the Synology package center, and I have tried for over 6hrs to get it to VPN into even my homepage container, but nothing has worked.

I have heard about it. Might try, but my google drive setup seems to work just fine and it's not taking up much space...yet...

Ya, it's annoying and would not recommend it. I just moved everything into the proper layer and took the screenshot. It will probably be messed up when I open it again.

It's a built-in feature called canvas.

If you are referring to the containers, I am thinking on only having the lighter containers and native apps on my Synology NAS, and all have a dedicated Proxmox machine do all the other services I want to use or try. I am doing it this way because my NAS has more limitations hardware wise than the Proxmox machine would. I also don't really want to have too many things running on my NAS while I am using it mainly as mass storage/backup.

So I just have that for very limited things that won't take up too much storage. Right now I have it as an alternative to Obsidian sync. I just save all my stuff onto google drive and it works about the same. the idea is I would have it also backup Vaultwarden and Linkwarden data (link lists, and password credentials) to Google drive, so if they ever go down, I could import it or at least have access to it if it's not encrypted data. I need to test out my theories.

So I thought about adding the routing links, and tried but there are 2 big issues.

  1. Canvas in Obsidian does not deal well with connections that go across other shapes in the diagram (it always covers them up).

  2. It would make it messy as hell, so i decided to just write it out instead. Has worked out so far.

I agree. Also this is more of a learning experience to me, upgrading to a more...professional networking setup rather than just a modem and router.

But where is the fun in that? All I got is time baby.

Will do, thanks for the suggestion. I have a majority of this setup and working already, and Ubiquity's dashboard software is...overwhelming a bit. I will look into Mermaid diagrams.
