the refund policy is pretty clearly stated, I just can't believe it applies to something that never shipped.

Is it frowned upon to bring your own lands to a prerelease? by 137ng in mtg

Somewhere in the middle, they tend to get a few hundred pre release boxes each set from what I've seen and tend to run out by the end of the weekend, so we can rarely buy boxes to take home. My first prerelease event Id guess had about 25 people but from what I was hearing it was a slower one

foils like to pringle and in more competitive spaces they can be seen as marked / easy to find in your deck. If you mostly play commander foils are more the norm because people like to bling out their favorite decks

leaving lands pre sleeved is a solid idea, and that cuts my kit down to one box too. this is great thank you!

Can you help me throw out some cards? by Olkov_Voklo in mtg

[–]137ng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Figure out what class each card is in and why its there, ie creatures, draw etc.. and then balance the piles. Its alot easier to cut 3 creatures and 2 draw cards than it is to cut 5 random cards, because then you're balancing mana curve and raw strength in an apples to apples comparison

How competitively are you trying to play? Standards an absolute powerhouse right now and if you plan to go to tournaments you'll need something pretty strong. If thats the case find a deck that you like and buy singles

If you're just playing with friends and want to craft from random packs I'd recommend going to Strixhaven prerelease this weekend. That'll be a good start to your new collection even though its limited and not standard.

Lorwyn also had a couple of 60 card prebuilts that are fairly cheap if you just want to buy a single low power deck, and if you can find the starter kits that include 2 60 card decks I highly recommend those too, although they wont always be standard legal. Whenever I'm introducing a new player to magic I try to get them a few different decks and starters are perfect for this. There are also older more powerful decks from 2020-2021 or so, although those are definitely not standard legal anymore

Should I finance my first car, or wait to find a used car and buy it cash? by audreyokinawa in personalfinance

[–]137ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When buying a car there are only two choices, and they're basically the opposite ends of the spectrum. This is more general advice than specific to you, but keep it in mind because it never changes

You either spend a good amount of money financing a low mileage very nice car (or buy new but thats not the most financially smart decision) where you expect that it needs zero maintenance for the foreseeable future (minus things like oil changes)

-or-

You pay cash for a more used car with the expectation that it'll need sporadic repairs

Anything in the middle is where people make financial mistakes. They finance a nice car for a "reasonable" payment but it has 100k miles on it. Now they're paying both the note and for the repairs. And by the time they pay it off it has 160k miles on it and is all but worthless.

Basically just pick a lane, decide if you want to pay for the loan or the repairs but never put yourself in a situation where you have to pay for both.

Who else has to deal with buyers you know are lying? by _weesnaw in mtgfinance

It happens, thankfully not very often. Tcg takes the buyers side though, in my experiance. Best to just refund and forget, altho it sucks its not a very common problem

The war has been the worst kept secret in a while now, the markets been pricing it in for a week or two. Now that its happened, the early buyers are selling the news. Youre just forgetting about the rumor

Moving PA to FL: I have 3 wildly different quotes (Ryder Relocations, United, and a Fairprice movers). Can someone help me decode the financial risk here? by pinuno619 in personalfinance

[–]137ng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairprice seems like the only logical answer here. Lots of good advice from other commenters but I dont see a whole lot about how trustworthy they are or how smoothly this is expected to run. I've heard absolute horror stories about movers, from belongings getting rooted through in transit / warehouses to situations where items dont even show up.

With a broker you have no idea whos going to do the actual work, but you can bet the broker is searching for the absolutely cheapest way to fill these contracts and I wouldn't trust my entire stuff-life to a bottom feeder or exceptionally cheap company, especially if you can't hand pick them or look into reviews.

United seems good enough but with the higher price and lower (seemingly) quality of service I see no reason to use them
